Not always true. ancestry.com does have bandwidth problems. I have 1.5Mb DSL access and I have to wait numerous times for downloads. Also, I have subscribed to ancestry.com for three years and they sent me one email in the beginning advising me that my subscription would automatically renew. Yes, you can find an 800 number to call to cancel but you have to look very hard to find it. Anyway, after three months (the minimum subscription time), who can remember a phone number? The three years I have subscribed, the service has been problematic, but what else is there? Right now, when I search and the results are displayed, I cannot access the Membership & Directory results. I have attempted to contact ancestry.com and advise them they have a programming problem but again, it is like they do not want people to contact them for any reason. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Green" <skeech@comcast.net> To: <WILSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 5:59 PM Subject: Re: [WILSON-L] Resources > If you're concerned about the speed, it's not the service, it's your > internet connection. I do agree that all of these outfits try to insulate themselves from their subscribers. Genealogy.com is having a 14 day free trial on their census if you act before May 27. Of course you have to give them your credit card number over the internet because they won't list a phone number on any of their advertising they send out. This is the last number that I got from them about a year ago when I ordered their service. (you'd better copy this one down) Genalogy.com If you ever need to cancel your subscription, call 800-548-1806 any time. So Ancestry.com bought Genealogy.com. I guess that means they pretty much run the whole show now. Time for another price hike, eh!
