Unfortunately, I am just getting started, and I don't know past 1897. I have a long way to go, which is why I inquired about the archives. More than likely I will be using that in the future. However the ancestors that I do know about are from Clarion county. It is even rumored that I have some American Indian on the Wilson side, but I don't know where that comes in. I think my dad said he was 1/16, so that would go back to my ggg grandfather??? Are there records for Indians specifically, or would it be more difficult to find that information? My grandmother on my mom's side said that in her line there is an Indian woman as well. She said she was Cherokee, which I can't find any connection to any Cherokee in our area of Pennsylvania. I am realizing that I have my work cut out for me, and as a novice at this, I have a VERY long way to go just to learn the steps I need to take. Thanks for your help! They left there in about 1811 and moved to Champaign County, Ohio. I don't know the parents' names, but the son, who was 14 when they moved from PA, was named Thomas Henderson Wilson. Does any of this match with your ancestors? Phyllis ==== WILSON Mailing List ==== How to unsubscribe fom list. e-mail to WILSON-L-request@rootsweb.com unsubscribe in message.
Sara, As you look farther back I hope you will check into Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, or perhaps Northwest Georgia. If this line is indeed Cherokee, that is where you should find them. A goodly band of Cherokees remained behind after so many were driven to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears. I also have a Cherokee line, also it is Walker or perhaps Leatherwood and predates the Trail of Tears.Yours may also. I don't know of a Wilson connection. But if you find one, I'd surely love to know about it. Who knows? The Qualla Reservation in Swain County, NC is the present headquarters for the Eastern Band of the Cherokee.
