    1. [WILSON] NICKNAMES IN THE SOUTH FROM EARLY TO MID 1850’s
    2. Tom Dunklin
    3. A Jerry M Wilson is shown living in William Wilson’s household on the 1850 West Amunchee, Walker Co, GA census along with other siblings. Shows him born ca 1845 GA. Some older siblings shown born 1829 thru 1841 in South Carolina; unknown SC County. My question is.....if Jerry is a nickname, what legal name could “Jerry” represent? Maybe, Jerral , Jerome , Jerrard, etc? His father was William, born ca 1801 SC; unknown County. Firstborn child was Benjamin W E Wilson, born 1829 SC. Sarah is shown as William’s wife but it is thought she might be a 2nd wife, born ca 1815 SC. My direct connection is to William and Sarah’s last child, Abraham (Martin?) Wilson, born ca 1851-1852 GA. The name Martin has been used for others in my family line. I have the forward timeline for Abraham/Abram Wilson starting in 1870 where he living in Morgan Co Alabama but I have nothing on this Wilson family before 1850. All opinions welcome. 2. I would assume any name beginning with a J or G that could be a potential possible Jerry should be looked at. Remember, John F. Kennedy was called JACK so nick names are just that, and I would assume Jerry on a census could very well be his given name. But you never know. Just keep your eyes and mind wide open for any possibilities.
