The Wilson family was of Scot origin, According to family tradition, David Wilson born 1685 in Scotland, son of David Davis Wilson and grandson of Dan'd Wilson, supported the Stuart family in their effort to overthrow the Hanoverian monarch of England in 1715. After the defeat of the Stuarts at the battle of Preston in 1715. David fled to Ulster Ireland where he died. His son William born 11/16/1722 in Ulster married Elizabeth Blackburn, daughter of Archibald Blackburn in 1746 in Frederick Co VA. William died 9/2/1801 near Hardy Co. WV.
