    1. Wilson thought to be German "Wolfson" Or "Wulfson"
    2. Greetings All and Happy New Year Trying to find something on my husbands family of "Wilson". We have had two different stories related to us by family members who do not agree on anything. Story one....Wilson is Scottish.....we are from the Gunn clan and have cousins who were married in the clan tradition, with full highland dress Story two.... Our Wilsons are of German descent. It was once written as Wolf-Wulf-son in the Old German way. Needless to say...I'm confused as to where to look exactly. I do know that my husband's maternal grandmother, Ina Magarete was of possible German descent...she was a Teague and the family has Moravian roots. In fact her first cousin was my parents' landlord in the early '60's and I went to Church for Love Feast with him and his family friends (he was a widower and had no children) That was loong before I met my husband and later learned this fact of relationship just before she died. So that information source is no longer available first hand. Her husband was John David Wilson. My husbands mother indicated that the family was of Scottish descent and mentioned the cousins' wedding etc. She passed in '89so we have no more information available first hand on that line of reasoning. Now it is being said that his family was known to be German with the name originally as "Wolfson" or "Wulfson" And from there the information available seems to dead end because the living relatives are just not interested. Sounds pretty mysterious hun? I cannot get exact marriage or bith dates out of anyone either! If anyone has a lead that they have come across in their own research please contact me. I would certainly appreciate it. John David Wilson mar. Ina Magarete Teague Lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina Children : Richard (desc) Barabara (desc) Husband's Mother Don (desc) Carolyn (living) Doris (living) ** Ina's father was the Chief of Police in WS at the last of the 1800's His name was Milton Erastus Teague and stories have it that he carried a "flask cane" with whiskey in it.** Any tidbit is better than nothing and that is what we have on the Wilson family right now. In advance thank you for taking time to read my inquiry. Sincerely.....Janet T. Webb

    3. think the name originally came from denmark---wilf--meaning wolf- ( or son of a wolf )--long before heriditary surname--also wilfson-wylson-finally wilson--came to east coast of scotland in the 9 th century--shows on original shield--my ref is letter- dated may 20-1932- from leonard wilson-university of california-instructor in geneology--also goes on to state the family split into 3 branches-1 in england-other's in scotland & ireland- believe-family i'am desc from is wilson's of iverness-scottish ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 05, 2005 1:11 PM Subject: [WILSON-L] Wilson thought to be German "Wolfson" Or "Wulfson" > Greetings All and Happy New Year > > Trying to find something on my husbands family of "Wilson". 1. [WILSON-L] Wilson thought to be German "Wolfson" Or "Wulfson"
    2. Mark
    3. The version I heard was that Wilson came from a famous William Gunn. His son called himself Willson. Over time the name was shortened. The German part may still come into play. I have recently seen where Scottish Wilson's who have be extensively DNA tested showed a German strain of DNA. Gunn has commonly been thought short for Gunnar from Viking days. Now theory is leaning that the Picts (from which Gunn's descended) may have a good deal of German blood. You can google up Scottish sites to check out this info. Mark Wilson Charlotte, NC
