    2. Sue and Peter, My Wilsons were in Burke Co., North Carolina. My Joseph Wilson Died in Burke Co. in the year of 1810. The only certainty of that is in the early probate court. Mary (unk) Wilson was appealing to the court to grant her the land rights of her deceased husband Joseph. I have no further info on them. They had at least one son Joseph L. Wilson b. 1808 in Burke Co.. He married Elizabeth D. Piver b. 1804 NC? They were married in Burke Co., North Carolina on July 23, 1827. I don't know if my Wilson line would fit into your geological region but I thought I would give it a shot. Keep the faith and keep on searchin', Bob Wilson, Michigan

    3. Bob, Of course later generations of the really early families did start the trek west, but in Burke and the other western counties, I seem to run into mostly the Scotch Irish who as I recall started coming into the country in large numbers about 1745. Hopefully someone on the list is better informed on the dates for the Scotch Irish than I am. I have been told that if your family came in earlier than 1745, chances are they are English. At any rate I use a Rand McNally Atlas and NC takes up two pages. The page on the right is pretty much what I think of as 'OLD' North Carolina. It is in this area where more of the families have been in the country for a long time and many have roots in VA.
