I am looking for the parents of my G-G-G-grandfather James S. Wilson, who married Ann Ferrell, and died at Andersonville. On a search of 1840 Lewis Co. Wilson's that had son's in the "15 under 20" group, as James S. would be, I found that only a David Wilson would meet this requirement and end up in Upshur Co. On the 1860 Upshur census there are 5 head Wilson families there. They are Samuel, husband of Ann Siron, John W., son of Samuel, Gideon, son of Samuel, David Wilson, and my James S. Wilson. Upon looking for land records for David Wilson, I found that his father Samuel Wilson (not the Ann Siron Sam) left the next best thing to a Will. A land record listing all his children. They all give/sell the land (1,550 Acres in Lewis Co.) to David. It is on Sand Fork. There are two Sand Run, (Little Sand Run) rivers/creeks in Upshur/Buckhannon, where David lived. Land record dated July 30, 1846. Children of; Sam Wilson (deceased) Elizh. Sumner (nee Wilson) David John James Mary Bush (nee Wilson) Jane Vincent (nee Wilson) William Wilson, deceased, son of Sam Wilson, deceased. Children of William;, John, Mary, William Mary Hill (nee Bush), Jane Holder (nee Bush), George, Sam and Fernando Bush, children of Mary Bush (nee Wilson) deceased So this must be the Samuel Wilson that married Jane Armstrong, Nov., 18, 1819, in Pendleton Co. I need information on this family. Are they related to the family of Samuel Wilson that married Ann Siron? Are they another of the Doe Hill Wilson's? This could explain why my James S. Wilson enlisted in the same unit, the 133rd, as Gideon and John W. Wilson, son's of Samuel and Ann Siron, and why they lived so close together. I need to know if James S. was David's son. Al Wilson
Al, In order to determine once and for all if your Wilson line is connected to the Doe Hill Wilsons, you ought to have your DNA analyzed. Our Wilson DNA Project already has three or four participants who descend from the Doe Hill Wilsons. By comparing your DNA to theirs, you will know for certain whether or not there is a connection, and then you can better focus your research. If you would like to join the Wilson DNA project and get your DNA analyzed at a group discount rate, then following the instructions at http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=T88756&special=true . I recommend beginning with the 25 marker test rather than the less expensive but less useful 12 marker test.
