One more comment, then no more......DNA banks are only varied and helpful if many people participate....without having this type of information out on the lists where a potential DNA profile individual can be given information that this type of test is available they may never learn the info or have the profile completed.. I understand with my family's DNA the hopes is someday we can tell by profile results which Wilson's are English, Scottish or Irish. I know that would be appreciated. Some potential Wilson's thinking of participating in the DNA bank may never go to the DNA list and then all their data could possibly be missed. Just some thoughts..... S Wilson

The issue as I see it really isn't whether or not we believe DNA testing is a worthwhile subject for our lists or not--it is merely that the subject of DNA testing and research can easily get into the realm of commercial postings It can also become an obsession/passion for those involved in DNA research and sometimes these people "on a mission" can be very difficult for surname list admins to deal with and control. The limits of this type of discussion (what is allowed and isn't) are often best suited to a list specifically designed for DNA discussion and handled by admins who "know the rules" set by RootsWeb for this type discussion. The problem with DNA discussion on a general surname list is that it often takes on a life of its own and drives all other subject matter (and people with it) away. End of this thread.
