My WILSON genealogy dates back to Mecklenburg, N.C. There is a book "Mecklenburg & their Signers" (by Worth S. Ray) that lists several Wilsons who were among the first settlers of that N.C. area...and there is a SAMUEL WILSON whose will was probated in Mecklenburg N.C. dated 9 March 1778. He was married 3 times & among the children with the 3rd wife was a William Wilson. I do not know if Wm. married a lady named Sarah or not. The names of all of the Samuel Wilson families' children were: David, Benjamin, Samuel, Sally, Violet, Mary, Margaret, Robert, William, Lillie, Sarah, & Charity. Do any of these sibling names appear in any of your lineage? My theory is that any of them could have named a son Abraham and those many children, from Mecklenburg, did scatter far & wide over the southern U.S. Just wondering if we might have mutual WILSON heritage!!! Paula & Tom: Going further back in time, have you compared the Samuel Wilson listed in Mecklenburg & their Signers with the Samuel Wilson found in the history of Augusta, Virginia area Wilsons? Some some are found in Kentucky part of which was Virginia and others went further south to NC. Follow the early Scotch Presbyterians back from Augusta to the earlier Presbyterian colonies such as Lancaster, PA and further back to Chester, PA and nearby MD counties where they originally landed from Ulster Plantation in the early part of the 1700's with the Patton's and friends and other settlers of Augusta. It's an interesting study. You will find such other cousins such as John Wilson the Burgess of Augusta who for some 27 years represented the interests of the early VA claim going West "to the uttermost." Many list John as a son of Samuel. Ron Wilson -----Original Message----- From: Clara W. Hi Paula, Sorry to interrupt your conversation Abrams Wilson to which I have no known connection at this time. Let me introduce myself, I am Robert Wilson and I have ancestors from Missouri, ( Iron , Wayne and Madison Cos. ) I have been following your posts as of late. My early ancestors were from Burke and Mecklenburg Counties N. C.. The era for my direct decendant Wilsons was about 1750 til 1834 in N. C.. I have only recently discovered a connection in Mecklenburg where my Joseph Wilson may have owned land which was a part of where the Rudisil Gold Mine operation began. After Joseph's death in Burke Co. a fellow named Marshall T. Polk ( related to James Knox Polk our 11th President ) bought the Mecklenburg property ( abt. 1829 ) from Josephs widow Mary Wilson. Then about 1831 Marshall T. Polk died and in his will he willed the property he bought from widow Mary's estate back to widow Mary and her daughters Sara R., Mary J., and possibley a Laura. Does any of this bring to your mind a connection in any way? Again I am sorry to interrupt your conversation on Abrams but I am looking for that proverbial needle in the haystack for connections. Hi. Bob: I'm from Michigan too. I was born in Wyandotte, Michigan and my Michigan ancestors arrived in Frenchtown, Monroe County, about 1836 from Orange County, Indiana. My gggrandfather John Wilson originated in Virginia but moved to Kentucky where he married Sidney Freeman. Sidney Freeman's father Benjamin Freeman lived in Mercer County, KY but sold his land and bought land in Orange County, IN. Not long after Benjamin Freeman died about 1831, John Willson, and Sidney gathered up the children and traveled to Frenchtown where they lived until a little after 1860. Their son Thomas Dow Wilson born in IN 1828 died 1883 is my great grandfather. Not to worry Bob. I believe that the more discussions we have about our ancestors, the sooner we may find an unknown link to help break down that brick wall. Our ancestors sometimes ended up in places we never considered searching, so to me, the more info the better! WILSON Researchers: Is it possible that any of you with "Wilson Ancestors" from Mecklenburg Co.N.C. could also be descended from my Patriarch, James Wilson who married Isabella Smith? There are several James Wilson men descending from this family who immigrated into TN & KY. In search of Religious Freedom & Independence, the Wilsons & Smiths immigrated from Scotland to Cecil Co. MD then on to Mecklenburg N.C...later moved to Carroll Co. TN then into Graves Co. KY. My Grandfather, James Wilson, (Graves Co. KY) married Elizabeth Robey... whose ancestors were from Castle Donnington-Leicestershire, England. My father, Henry L. Wilson, is buried in Pleasant Valley Cem., Graves Co. KY. I've worked over 50+years on this genealogy & there is still so much that I want to know & find out!!!! I would love to contact more cousins to share & compare info! Take care & God Bless!
