Hi Dennis, Don't forget that a memorial manager might also be related to the person in question, and not want to transfer the memorial, even to someone closer related than the person making the transfer request. That creates a double situation: 1. The requester may be upset. 2. The requester may be elated to have made contact with another cousin! Thay might just have opened a door to obtaining more info from the person who posted the memorial though direct communication. I absolutely LOVE to be able to swap GEnealogical Data COMmunication (GEDCOM) files with another researcher! Unfortunately, since Ancestry has come along, many persons do not have a personal genealogical program in their computer, and therefore cannot utilize an incoming GEDCOM, and have no way of creating one to share. (:<(( Some contributors will transfer any memorial they have posted if it is not in their own family, and state exactly that on their profile page, while some seem to think that every memorial they have posted is theirs forever. I have been in contact with both extremes. (:<)) AND (:<(( Some contributors spend WAY too much time posting info in their own profile to give instructions to other contributors. I DO NOT find favor with that. Any/all such instruction is posted by FAG in their FAQs. I am active enough in my family history pursuits that I frequently discover memorials for persons who are WAY outside of my 4 generation direct ancestor group. My goal is not to become manager of all of those memorials, but if/when I can contribute significant info to the memorial - outside of the newly added "auto edit" feature which allows me to directly enter "suggested" updates for Names & Dates that FAG has created - such as links and important bio info, then I will try using the "Edit, SAC" feature to contact the contributor. If/when I do contact the contributor, I normally ID my relation to the person in question, and provide updates, then let them know that if they are NOT related, I would be happy to make the updates if they wanted to transfer the memorial to me. Some do. Some don't. Bill Harrison 47153789 On Sat, 22 Feb 2014 20:33:39 -0800 (PST) dennis wilson <dpw928@sbcglobal.net> writes: Larry, I've seen FAG contributors banned for intentional duplicates. If you request a transfer for a relative that is in your direct line and within 4 generations, the memorial manager should transfer it to you. If they won't, forward a copy of your request to edit@findagrave.com an the will transfer it. Before using FAG it is recommended that you read and understand the FAQ's/rules Dennis From: "LWilson181@aol.com" <LWilson181@aol.com> To: mrbil1@juno.com Cc: wilson@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, February 22, 2014 9:20 PM Subject: [WILSON] Linking Memorials in FAG Bill I agree that someone cannot link to a memorial posted by someone else. I have been successful at identifying and making contact with the person who created it originally. They can make the link with the memorial number that you provide. I have not experienced a turn-down by anyone. I did find one created by another who never responded to my messages. In that case, I simply created a new, duplicate memorial for the same ancestor and did the linkages myself. This has only happened once in all the connections that I have made.
