Mary Anne: I couldn't help but be intrigued by your email (via RootsWeb). Versions of Olive/Oliver have cropped up in various of my Wilson ancestors. My 2G grandfather, John Wilson, was reputedly born in Switzerland County, Indiana, in 1813. He married Mahala Scott in Swit. Co., in 1835. They named their 4th child Olive Orilla Wilson. They moved to Holt Co., MO, in about 1842, then on to Oregon in 1851 (my great grandfather, James Thomas Wilson, was their 10th child, and was about one year old when they went to Oregon). John had an older brother, Robert Wilson, born 1810. He married Ruby Orella Pierson in Hanock Co., IN, in 1833, and became a merchant in Raysville, Henry Co., IN. Robert's first son was named Oliver H. Wilson, and he was living in John and Mahala's home in the 1860 Linn Co., OR, census. Oliver H. was born in 1839, and we found him at home in the 1850 census, as a child of Robert and Ruby Orella Wilson in Raysville, Henry Co., IN. Robert Wilson's, and my John Wilson's, father appears to be William Wilson, who with his brother, Robert Wilson, Jr. (another "Robert"), were early settlers in Hancock Co., IN, moving there in the mid to late 1820s. (I've not proven this William is my 3G grandfather, but I haave a lot of clues that point to him as my 3rd---and none that deny it.) After about 16 to 18 years in Hancock Co., IN, this William moved his large family to Jasper Co., Illinois---and subsequently died within a couple years of moving there. He and several of his married children, all lived in the Willow Hill Township of Jasper Co., IL. Now to Greensburg. I see that it is the county seat of Decatur Co., Indiana. I found a William C. Wilson, who married Luticia Jones in Shelby Co., IN, then they resided in Decatur Co., IN, until about 1851 or 52, when they and their young family moved to the Willow Hill Township in Jasper Co., Illinois. For a while I thought he might be a son of "my" William (who died in Jasper Co., as mentioned), but now I believe William C. must be a nephew. When I looked at the 1860 census to find William C. Wilson in Jasper Co., I discovered he was only three houses away from Catherine Wilson Everman and her husband, one of "my" William's older daughters. "My" William's father appears to be the Robert Wilson, Rev. War soldier, who petitioned for a Rev. War pension in 1833, after living 6 or 7 years in Hancock Co., Indiana. In the 1840 census of Hancock Co., he was one of the two Rev. War soldiers still alive and living in Hancock Co., IN. He was 95 in 1840. He was born in Augusta Co., Virginia. I have a copy of a will for a John Oliver, who died in 1791, in Augusta Co. He named a Robert Wilson, apparently a favorite son-in-law, to be his Executor. I've not proven it yet, but I half-way suspect that this is the same Robert Wilson, Rev. War soldier, who was 95 in the 1840 census of Hancock Co., Indiana (and who would be my 4G grandfather). If this Robert's wife is an Oliver, that would explain why the name Oliver/Olive crops up several times amongst my Wilson ancestors. My apologies for the long dialogue. But I felt I needed to explain enough that it would make sense to you. Is your Olive Sarah's last name, or a middle name? Is he a Wilson, or married to a Wilson? And do you see any possibilities of your Wilsons connecting to mine? If they appear to be related, perhaps we can provide answers for each other. I'll look forward to hearing from you.
