My gg gfather, William Wilson, was born ca 1801 South Carolina according to the 1850 West Amunchee, Walker Co, GA 1850 census. By 1860 was in Division 2, DeKalb Co Alabama. Have no clue where he was born or lived in South Carolina. My cousin’s DNA test identified our line as Scotch-Irish. Looking for any Wilson line that might have some kind of connection to my William Wilson. Think he was married a 2nd time by 1850 census. Wife is listed as Sarah, maiden name unknown. He had at least 10 children: Benjamin W. E. Wilson; Mary M; Abby L; Martha A; James; Susan C; Jerry M(Jeremiah?); Minerva Jane; Sarah Elizabeth; Abraham/Abram/Abe. Some of these people had connections to Morgan, and Lawrence Co, AL; Oklahoma; and my direct line traveled on to Central Texas. Think I found Benjamin on 1860 Non-Population Schedule in Division 2, DeKalb Co AL along with William on 1866 Alabama State Census, Division 2, DeKalb Co, AL. I need to find William and his family while living in South Carolina pre 1850 but have no clue as to where to look. Any Wilson family out there who might be able to connect to my Wilson line? Thanks, Paula Sent from my iPad PAULA DUNKLIN
Hello I can not add to your South Carolina information, but your statement about Scotch Irish is familiar. My Campbell line followed the same route. They were from Perthsire in Scotland. My investigation found that Highland Scots settled in the northeast, while Scots from the Lowlands went to the southeast. My search also turned up the fact that Highland and Lowland Scots always had their own Church. If you know the Religious affiliation, tracing people thru Church records can be more fruitful than Civil records. Hope this helps Rick Porter Finger Lakes House Histories Quoting Tom Dunklin via WILSON <wilson@rootsweb.com>: > My gg gfather, William Wilson, was born ca 1801 South Carolina > according to the 1850 West Amunchee, Walker Co, GA 1850 census.
