Joanne...I'm excited to think there just might be a connection from your James Wilson (from Scotland) to my James Wilson (1779-1880) (from Ireland) who migrated from Cecil Co. Maryland, then on to Mecklenburg, N.C. and from there eventually to Carroll Co. TN. There are so many James Wilsons, but I would love to hear if you have traced yours to the U.S. I look forward to your response. Let's keep in touch. Take care & God Bless! Maryland. He married( supposedly) abt. 1660 Margaret Kidd..unfortunately there is a Margaret Kidd born 1628 & one born 1645, both listed in various places as his wife. The Margaret (1628) parents are listed as William Kidd born 1622 ( not possible as he would be 6 years old) and Margaret Deare. They are also listed as the parents of Margaret ( 1645) which is possible. To add more flies to the ointment, Margaret P. Gott is also listed as James wife. Does any one have any documented proof as to who is the correct wife? I've tried each backward and forward and still can't make any sense of it. Any information greatly appreciated. I also descend from James Wilson & Margaret Kidd (Kydd). He is my 7th gr. grandfather. Has anyone in this family line done the FTDNA Family Finder test? Would like to share information for possible connections. Linda Wilson Richards
Linda. I have done FtDNA, but have not found a connection to my David Wilson (4G) born January 1774, probably in Virginia. VA is shown as place of birth in 1850 census when he was still living. In the 1880 census, three of his children reported their father was born in: Ireland, North Carolina, Tennessee. ??? Larry Wilson PS. In the nearest matches (67) there is only one other person with the Wilson surname. I recently did Ancestry DNA. I have connected with a number of distant relatives, but no Wilson's so far. Clara and Joanne, Did any of your Wilson's make their way to Scott county Illinois.... I have traced my line back to 1836 but as you said there are so many Wilson lines that I can't connect my EKA born 1793 to a location...I have his son born possibly in Kentucky abt. 1819. Nothing earlier. Pretty well documented from 1836 to present. I have one Wilson cousin left from my grandmother's paternal line who can take the test be is still in the thinking phase (been 2 years). Would love to know where my ancestry lies.
