Here is a long shot. But would like to confer with you regarding John Wilson and Rockbridge Co. I am of the John Wilson/Elizabeth Travers Chinn union of Middleburg VA, Loudoun Co. Pres. Zachary Taylor was the grandson of Elizabeth Lee daughter of Sarah Allerton and Hancock Lee. Sarah Allerton is the granddaughter of the Mayflower passenger Isaac Allerton. His other daughter Francis Allerton (Sarah's sister) married Samuel Travers. Their daughter Elizabeth Travers was the greatgrandmother of Elizabeth Travers Chinn who married a Wilson as stated above. SOOOO Elizabeth Travers Chinn (Wilson) and Pres. Zachary Taylor are 3rd cousins once removed. I have reason to believe that the John Wilson you speak of in August Co. Rockbridge might be my missing link to the ancestors of my John Wilson. Another researcher "Bob Wilson" recently sent me this: Hi - I have found a very slim "maybe" as to John Wilson. In the early 1700's John Wilson "old Burgess" and Dr. Thomas Wilson settled in Fairfield, Rockbridge Co. Virginia. Another brother, Matthew, died on the voyage from England. His three sons - James (1715-1809) Moses, and Joshua survived. One of these could have been John Wilson's (1772-1821) father or grandfather. In 1731 1000 acres in Middleburg was surveyed for Rawleigh CHinn father of Elizabeth Travers Chinn. It was known as "the Burgess". Could these Wilsons have known the Chinns? From that I get a response on line from Sandy Wilson: I was wondering where you obtained the information about Old Burgess Wilson and his brother. Wondering if this information came from the book entitled "The Wilson Family" published by the American Genealogical Research Institute, Arlington, Virginia. On page 34 it states...... And then she almost identically quotes what my cousin researcher sent me above. In my research on Burgess. I found Col. John Wilson d. 1773 72 years of age - serving 27 yrs as a Representative in the Honorable House of Burgess. His Wife Martha d. 10 July 1755 at 60 they are buried in Glebe Graveyard. This information was found in Google.com "House of Burgesses" "John Wilson" Virginia. www.rootsweb.com/~vaaugust/glebe.html Glebe Cemetery, August County, Virginia. I just have a feeling we can work together on this to make a connection. Janean
