Maybe these articles will assist. Many Scotish people came to the US from Ireland. My Wilson line in Tennessee were of the Scotish/Presbyterian variety mentioned in the article. http://www.scottishtartans.org/ulster.html http://www.carolana.com/SC/Royal_Colony/sc_royal_colony_scots_irish.html http://www.genealogical.com/products/Scotch-Irish%20Migration%20to%20South%20Carolina%201772/9428.html http://www.sciway.net/hist/people/scotch-irish-sc.html -----Original Message----- From: TOM F DUNKLIN <dunk1432@verizon.net> To: Wilson <Wilson@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tue, Jan 17, 2012 2:11 pm Subject: [WILSON] SCOTLAND, CANADA & THE USA I have a question; perhaps someone can help me. There is a possibility that our ery early Wilson/Willson ancestors came to the USA from Scotland. What path did he early Scottish Wilsons take after leaving Scotland and coming to the states? ould it have most likely been thru Canada? If they headed straight to the U.S., n what port would they have docked? 've never considered looking at Canada for clues, I just assumed they landed on ur shores straight from Scotland. Now I'm wondering if I should perhaps start ooking at Canadian records. According to census records, my William Wilson was orn in SC ca 1801. I have no other information on him; no parents or siblings. ondering if his earlier ancestors might have come down from Canada after eaving Scotland. Any information on the settlement patterns of Wilsons from anada that scattered thru out the U.S.? Or if they came directly to the U.S., hat was their early settlement pattern? Would love to find my Wilson line efore they settled in SC but have no clue where to start. aula ------------------------------- o unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILSON-request@rootsweb.com ith the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of he message
I'm trying to chase down my Wilson G-G-Grandfather born 1791 on Atlantic Ocean registered in South Carolina, but according to new info - birth possibly registered in Nova Scotia, Canada. ???Yup! I'm confused???!!! My point is this: Nova Scotia genealogy site has a map whereby you can enter your surname and it will show where your ancestors lived in NS. There were PULLIONS of Wilson's in NS!!! So don't discount that they arrived in NS or Quebec and then moved south. Some of my Wilson's stopped in Elgin County, Ontario which is not very far from Niagara Falls and the state of New York. And then south???? My family moved where they moved to because land became available. Why did your families travel to where they did? By the same token, to move FROM NY to Ontario, where land was available, was just as easy. Americans and Canadians have always bounced back and forth across the border. Half the people living along the border in Canada married in Vermont. Now why would they do that? Knowing the history of the area they settled in, and what was going on at that time, tells you a lot more about your ancestors. Also - some of them just had itchy feet. Another Wilson family member from Elgin, Ontario died in California!! Too late for the gold rush, so that was not his reason for going there. Incidentally, for those not familiar, Elgin County is the next county east from Port Huron, Michigan. Also, includes St. Thomas, Ontario which is just NE of Windsor/Detroit area.
