Yes, I have some of those Wilsons that came from Scotland to Virginia, and yes, I have James and Daniel included in my list of names also. Harold in Florida
The names James and Daniel are very common to the Wilsons who came into Virginia from Scotland. Jeanette
I have a drury/drewry Wilson that was born in Robertson Co., TN about 1812. He married Matilda Redding and most of their children were born in TN. He and his family are on the TN 1850 census and after that he is found in Montgomery Co., TX on the 1860 census. I don't know anything about Drury or Matilda'a parents other than I think Matilda was an Indian. I would be happy to compare notes if you think there is a connection to your Wilson's. There is currently an item on Ebay identified as "1834 Lilley/Wilson Family Bible". It's Item # 2900998848. The auction ends about 7 PM PST on Christmas day. The current bid is $33.00. I asked the seller about the earliest Wilson info, and she replied "The earliest date for Wilson is Harry J. Wilson married March 23, 1882. There are references to some Wilsons in West Bradford and West Chester, PA." This isn't my line, but maybe somebody on the list will recognize the family. Wilson DeCamp
Does anyone know about this family? Samuel Wilson was born ca. 1780. He married Martha Turner probably in South Carolina. She was the daughter of Joseph Turner Sr. Samuel and Martha moved to Copiah County Mississippi with the Turner Family. He died 1851-1858 in Copiah County. They are on the 1850 Copiah County Mississippi Census. Who were their children? Who was his parents? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Sherry Wilson Manuel
o In a dusty old book store in Medford, Oregon, I found and bought a PERCEY family Bible. The Bible was published in 1843 by Luther Roby in Concord, New Hampshire. The surnames in the Bible are PERCEY, WILSON, REYNOLDS, GARDNER, HOLLENBECK, and WIKES. The family dates go back as far as 1812. The entries do not give locations of births or deaths. I would be glad to unite this Bible with descendants for the cost of purchase and shipping. Please refer to 1843 Bible in subject line. I have been researching the family name "WILSON" for 4 years and have been from Canada to England to India. My Wilsons went to India in 1828 and remained for at least 2 to 3 generations. If anyone is researching Wilson's who went to India, especially the Bengal Presidency, please contact me. Cheers, Barb Wilson, Canada
Hello everyone I am searching for my Great Great Grandfather James WILSON. According to 1871 (Cheshunt, Herts) & 1881(Poplar, London) census entries he was born in Woodstock in Oxford in about 1826. He married Mary MURPHY in Marylebone in 1863, at that time living in Kensington, London. His father was Thomas WILSON who was deceased by the time of James' marriage. If any of these sketchy details ring any bells, I would love to hear from you. Regards Christine christine.davies@lineone.net
---------51f4a3b3805ec6151f4a3b3805ec61 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Content-Disposition: inline I'm trying to find my grandfather, John Buchanan Wilson, b. 5/5/1886 in Scotland. He came here (we think) through Ellis Island, between the years named in the subj. line. The problem is this: after searching all the Scottish John Wilsons who debarked at Ellis Island, none of the *possible* candidates specified their middle initial (The John B's that debarked there at all were eliminated for other reasons, such as arrival date, age at arrival, or specified nationality.) I'm left with 8 possibilities, and was hoping that some of you might be able to claim these, and thus eliminate them from my list. See my attached text file: jwilsons_ellisisland.txt If you'd rather I repost this with the list (only 8) imbedded in the message, I will happily comply (I suppose it might not show up for those of us who subscribe in digest form). Any of you who DON'T claim any Scottish John Wilsons arriving in the U.S. in these years can simply ignore the message altogether... :-) Thanks for any input, Mark M. I'm not Beryl -- but I'm wondering if you could be part of my WILSON line. I have a William (wife Sarah Chalmers) who had a son Alexander (born 1803) but past that I know nothing of him. I am from the line of Alexander's brother John who immigrated to the U.S. circa 1820. The information I have on siblings and parents have them in the Dumfries & Galloway area of Scotland - predominantely the Minnigaff Parish. Does any of this connect with you? Hi All New to this List but a WILSON tried and true. Researching the descendants and forbears of Andrew WILSON and Margaret COLSTON who left Dalkeith, Scotland for Victoria, Australia in 1854. They brought their teenage/young adult family with them. Andrew was born in Tranent, East Lothian in 1804, the son of John WILSON and Margaret PURVES. One of the mysteries is Isabella WILSON, their granddaughter. They brought her with them aged 5 and she named them as her parents on her marriage certificate. We presume she was the illegitimate daughter of their daughter Isabella who either died or met a guy who didn't want someone else's child tagging along. She married Francis MILLER in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1874. He was from New York, the son of Hans MILLER, a boardinghouse keeper. After that - no trace! I presumed he took her back to America but no sign on the 1880 Census. Maybe New Zealand? Too many Isabella MILLERs to even contemplate buying the certificates. Back to Scotland? A possibility! Any cousins or worthwhile suggestions out there? Beryl O'Gorman (nee WILSON) Greensborough Victoria Australia
