    3. This man......His my brick wall here is what I know about him which is not much........... Francis M. Wilson married [Mrs.] Betsey Thornton AKA {Elizabeth ROMINE THORNTON} Feb. 21 1867 in Saline Co. MO. And their son John Henry Wilson b: Dec. 18 1872 was raised by Abraham & Betsy Thornton Romine: Abraham was Elizabeth brother Elizabeth first husband never returned from the Civil War. Fleming Thornton they had one son James {Jamsion} Thornton who also stay with kin in Saline Co. on the 1900 Census Saline Co. MO. John Wilson said his father was born in IL. Their is a story that goes with this {short version} Francis & Elizabeth Wilson left sometime bet. 1874-1880 one of those years Midwest had alot more rain than usually they were head west from Arrow Rock or back were Francis was from. John was to little to go but the two girls did, they never did return for John Wilson. They were reports of a family that camped in a dry creek bed when their came a flash flood, their was never any names. My father remembers that a man they called uncle long John always coming over to dinner and going the church. Dad said John Estill Wilson {his father} said that he was his uncle. Their is a story that a old man had told my father why these to Wilson brother came to Saline City Mo. a man named Fleming Thornton had saved one of their lives in Civil War but had lost his own by this action. Francis M. & John Wilson told Fleming they would help his wife out after the war was over, and to let her know what had happen to him. { I have proof of this story, but dad said you could tell if was tell a tall tale but this story never change} Sorry this is so long but until last year we never knew who John Henry Wilson father & mother was. I think John was named after his brother John and maybe his father was a Henry because Elizabeth father was Jesse Romine is father Samuel Romine. John named is first son Francis Joseph Wilson {Francis after his father and Joseph after is wife father.} Regina Adams Sunrise Beach, Mo. 65079 gadams@dam.net Virus Free Scanned by Norton AntiVirus 2003

    3. The Wilson name is very difficult. Your best bet is to start at the last known county page and look for your people. Also, apply for any Social Security applications through the SSDI (Death Indexes) This gives you the person's parents and location of birth. Get on lists - County - Surname, post queries. Ask questions, read tips, check census. Send for marriage records, death certificates. Look for Wills. There are a lot of free pages out there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ami Sullivan" <AmiS@xenologix.com> To: <WILSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 2:15 PM Subject: [WILSON-L] Resources > Hi > > I'm just starting research into our family Wilsons (A.M. 3. Hi I'm just starting research into our family Wilsons (A.M. Wilson, b. 1867 in Mississippi, d. 3/21/1910 in Los Angeles, CA; married Nellie Louise Beckingham; one child Archie Richard Thompson Wilson Jr.). As I'm just starting, I'm not willing to say I'm at a brick wall, but I am trying to decide on the best search tools. I've already hunted around on Rootsweb, US Gen Archives, familysearch.com, the Wilson DNA page referenced by Ed Wilson (thank you), and some other websites. Now I'm considering a membership to either Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com. Do people have advice or suggestions about using one or the other? Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you! Ami Sullivan This message and any attached documents may contain information from the officers/employees of XenologiX Inc. that may be confidential and/or privileged.
