One Wilson family of East Tennessee that was displaced by the water from lakes impounded by the Tennessee Valley Authority was my husbands Wilson line. One of the people helping me with my research suggests to look at the census with a critical eye. Since people tended to migrate in groups and settle in the same areas, you should look at the census listings 6 before your family name and 6 after your family name because they could possibly be brothers and sisters or cousins or other family connections. I look for William Wilson's in my search and believe me, most every Wilson family had a William! Lori
Since I posted by my question re: Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com yesterday, I have received a number of helpful recommendations, comments and points of reference; and wanted to say "thank you" to everyone for your help and insight. As a new genealogy researcher, hearing from others and learning from your experiences is greatly appreciated and very helpful. Here's hoping we can all find our Wilsons! Thank you again!! Ami -----Original Message----- From: Ami Sullivan Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 11:16 AM To: WILSON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WILSON-L] Resources Hi I'm just starting research into our family Wilsons (A.M. Wilson, b. 1867 in Mississippi, d. 3/21/1910 in Los Angeles, CA; married Nellie Louise Beckingham; one child Archie Richard Thompson Wilson Jr.). As I'm just starting, I'm not willing to say I'm at a brick wall, but I am trying to decide on the best search tools. I've already hunted around on Rootsweb, US Gen Archives, familysearch.com, the Wilson DNA page referenced by Ed Wilson (thank you), and some other websites. Now I'm considering a membership to either Ancestry.com or Genealogy.com. Do people have advice or suggestions about using one or the other? Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you! Ami Sullivan This message and any attached documents may contain information from the officers/employees of XenologiX Inc. that may be confidential and/or privileged. Many of our Wilson lines came from or migrated to Tennessee. I believe the Projects and Dams you mention have displaced my Wilson's by these projects and dams thus the DNA project would help with what happened to these Wilson's and not just the ones from VA. Clues are clues and believe me, on my Wilson line, I need all the clues I can get and this project explains to me why suddenly my line isn't and wasn't any longer in that region. Lori
My husband's ancestor was William Wilson b 1796 in NC...thus far have not found where he was born or his father, think it might be a John Wilson. William married Jane McHenry 14 Nov 1816 in Rutherford Co., TN and then the family is in Hardeman Co., TN in 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 census...after his death in the 1870's several of his children moved to Tarrant Co., TX. -- Peggy <'}}}}>< Genealogy: Begins as an interest, Becomes a hobby, Continues as an avocation, takes over as an obsession and in its last stage is an incurable disease." Hello all - Seeking information on John WILSON born Scotland came to USA circa 1819/1820, married Mary Park(e) - also from Scotland - in 1821 and resided the rest of their lives in Jefferson County Indiana. Is anyone out there related to these folks???? Vivian Shatley
I've found that sometimes when you do a search on the census in Ancestry.com, the person doesn't always show up on the page that you're directed to. But, if you step forward or backwards by one image, you will find them. I have yet to have this fail for me. Nothing is perfect, just be glad we live in the computer age, otherwise you'd be spending a lot of time getting nowhere fast. We've been spoiled rotten, and I love it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Karen K" <kerrweinc2002@yahoo.com> To: <WILSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 02, 2003 3:45 AM Subject: Re: [WILSON-L] Re: DNA Please change subject heading > I have had to unsubscribe for a while, but I have seen > him on the 1850 La. census and slave schedule. Hi Wilson Researchers! Im looking for a marriage between a Wilson male "Frances"who married a Pratt woman in Newberry SC late 1820's mid 30's. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You , Dianne--McGeesGirl@aol.com
My Ludson Wilson was born in 1805 in Henry Co or Henrico. Our Family Bible is very old and fragile and the script is hard to read. He is my ggg grandfather and he married my ggg grandmother at he age of 39 in Mississippi and then moved to La. We are fairly certain that this was his second marriage because of his age. His wife was a lot younger than he was. Her name was Sarahann Lewis and she was born in 1820 in Miss. I have finally found out the Ludson was an English name. It is very unusual and there have been very few people in the US at any time with that name. Ironically, a Ludson Worsham was born about the same time and place, but he seems unrelated. Our Ludson Wilson named his children Indiana and Rezin Steele Wilson in naming patterns are of any help. He died in 1859 and so did his son who was only 15. To this day the first male child in the family always has the middle name Wilson. I wish that we could find some connection. I do not see any Chinns in our Bible, but his first marriage could have been to someone with that name? Karen Moore Kerr __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! I have had to unsubscribe for a while, but I have seen him on the 1850 La. census and slave schedule. There has been a problem with the Avoyelles Parish census for about a year. It is crossed with Ascencion Parish, so I have never got to see the actual census image. It would be interesting if there was another Ludson Wilson somewhere. I would assume they were related. I think the recent movie " Oh, Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney includes the flooding in one of the last scenes. Karen Moore Kerr __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo. http://search.yahoo.com

Not just A dam, but a whole series of dams along the Tennessee River - for some reason the number 13 comes to mind. In the late 1950's a movie was made in the area around Chattanooga. The movie was about a family displaced by the damming of the river. I think the title is Wild River. It starred Montgomery Cliff.
Hi Wilson Researchers! Still looking for the illusive Diannah Elizabeth Wilson. Parents unknown, was thought to be born abt,1810 in Newberry SC but at this point could be from anywhere! Diannah Wilson married John Montgomery in 1825 Near Newberry SC, then James J. Titus abt 1835 Near Newberry SC. Sometime after 1840 the family moved to Marshall County, TN near Diannah's 1st husbands family the Montgomery's. If you have a Diannah,Dianne,Annie,Elizabeth or and combination of these, could be a nick name or middle name. If you have seen ANYTHING pertaining to Diannah Wilson, pleaseeee email me. Thanks so much, Dianne- McGeesGirl@aol.com
