    3. Marriage Bonds and Licenses "In 1660-61 the [Virginia] law requiring a bond was first enacted. Because of a scarcity of ministers, the colony required that all persons wishing to be married by license must go to the county court clerk and give bond with sufficient security (usually $150 by the 19th century) that there was no lawful cause to prevent the marriage. The license was then prepared by the clerk and presented to the minister who would perform the ceremony. From the introduction to the published Frederick Co., VA Marriage Bonds, by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., Iberian Publishing Company. The bondsman or surety was to be "able and knowne." Often, this person was a brother or uncle to the bride, not necessarily a parent. The rich and established uncle was an excellent candidate for bondsman. The bondsman could be related to the groom, but from what we have seen, that situation would occur less often.

    3. In the 1820 census of Hopewell twp. Muskingum Cty, Ohio, there are several Wilsons listed: John, Henry, Elisabeth, Nathan, and Robert. In the 1830 census only John and Henry remain. By 1840, Henry remains and Jesse (my ancestor) appears. I've always wondered if these Wilsons are the same family and if, perhaps, Robert is Jesse's father, but so far no luck.     3. My g-grandfathers name was William Trenton Wilson b.about 1859, Williams wife was Lucy Rucker b.about 1859. They lived in Madison County, KY. They are listed in the 1880, 1910 census of Madison County. I don't know where WT was born, if it was in Madison County, or if he came there from somewhere else or anything about his ancestors. Lucys parents were John M. Rucker and Miranda (or Meranda) Jane Gentry I believe they lived in Madison County, KY. If anyone can has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Anna Cooper

    3. Phyllis, I would like to thank you for your reply in regard to Thomas Henderson Wilson/John Henderson Wilson. As you mentioned in your first reply I don't believe there is a connection. I was just trying a long shot. As far as I can guess, my Wilsons were from N.C. and Mo.. I haven't any conclusive evidence of this, these Wilson people seem to be pretty elusive. I have a lot of (just maybes) and I'm going on to search and somehow make a connection. Sorry for taking so long to return your e-mail. I just want to thank you and wish you HAPPY SEARCHING!     3. Carol, Thank you so much for the information. I appreciate your efforts to help me. I do not believe this James is related to us. There was a James, but he would have been born in IN and would have been abt 33 yrs. old. However, The family - Family # 12 - is my grandparents. The second son, George, is my father. The last two on the list were not twins, there must have been some error in the transcription. In 1920 Beulah was about 3 and Viigil about 9 months. The Ananias Wilson that died in 1963 was this same Ananias. Edith had died in 1936 and he remarried to Naoma. Sure wish I could find the gggrandfather, Ananias Wilson b 1830 in OH!! I am thankful for the death info. on the other Ananias Wilson in IL. I have puzzled over him a few times due to the fact that supposedly my Ananias had joined up for the Civil War from Morris, Grundy Co., IL. Recently, I was told by a genealogist that often the recruiters went from state to state to recruit, and probably came from IL and recruited my Ananias in Indiana. My Ananias died in July 1862 in IN.
