    1. [WILSON-L] WILSON-MEANS POST
    2. I am writing after seeing the following post to the Wilson list today: Walter Wilson came to this country from Ireland in 1807 and married Eleanor Means and his father was George Wilson. Children of Walter: John Jane Eliza James Michael 8/13/1813 George T. 1820 Robert M. 1811 I'm looking for any Means family in or around Morgan Co, AL in the mid 1800's. John Means married Lavinia Emaline Woodall in 1858, probably in Morgan Co, AL. I have no information on John at all, just his name. Ellen E. Means married William M. Woodall in 1859, probably in Morgan Co, AL. Again, no other information. My g grandfather, Abraham Wilson, married into the Woodall (and Nesmith) family of AL and I'm hoping that I might find a clue to help identify who his parents were. Perhaps he was connected in some way to the above Walter Wilson? Paula

    2. Hi: The only thing I have is some research another Wilson researcher left at a library in Lewis County. Her name was Mrs. James Evan Wilson of 817 Crocus Dr., Rockville, Md. Her research indicated Walter Wilson came to this country from Ireland in 1807 and married Eleanor Means and his father was George Wilson. Children of Walter: John Jane Eliza James Michael 8/13/1813 George T. 1820 Robert M. 1811 I am only assuming that this John maybe my John L. who was born about 1819 in Lewis County, Va, because of the Scot naming patterns. Walter has been a consistent name for 4 generations since this Walter. My assuming is only to look at this family with more interest than others, because of the possible age of John and the name Walter. Mrs. Wilson shows family lines for George T and Michael and that some information is from a family Bible. According to my finding she is about 83 and I would hate to miss this opportunity to compare records. I have recently found information that my line maybe from Samuel > William > to John L. I haven’t give up on this Walter Wilson as a descendent since George could be a brother to Samuel. Thanks for your interest. If this information is of use to you I can send more in relation to the lewis County, WV Wilsons. Pat Killian

    3. Pat, I guess some people are just afraid of genetics because they don't understand it. Maybe they do equate it with fingerprinting! If I were you, I hope I'd go to that family reunion and hold my head up. I have an idea there will be somebody there who agrees with you. My sister and I can't easily take the genetic route because our lines are a crazy quilt that jumps from male to female and back again just about every generation. I wish it weren't so. One, maybe more, of the people I correspond with uses this tag line, "If you have a family skeleton, make it dance!" Or something like that. I'm fond of family skeletons. They make life interesting! 2. List or testing coordinator: I think I have found a nephew to my ggrandfather Wilson living in Monroe County, WV. Now whether he will test is another problem. I have not met him yet and I plan to do that this summer immediately!! He is 85. but has a son 53. If nothing else, I want to meet him and get pictures and data. My problem is I need a way to request this procedure without intimitating or causing fear. I have approached 2 other family members, Bozeman and Hamilton and they act like I am the FBI and trying to pin something on them. They don't write back and I hate that I have been excommunicated from the family with a family reunion coming up in September. These 2 families I just found last year and was making progress, now nothing. They both were interested in genealogy with their respected lines and we shared our lines and they understood wanting to get further back, but ingnorance, fear or getting involved put up a road block. It wasn't money because I explained the cost and that the cost while wasn't exorbiant, it was costly and I would pay. I thought expressing the cost would indicate that this was important to me enough to shell out between 100-200 dollars on a remote chance to determine our families origin. I printed and mailed them the family-tree DNA documentation that explained in detail the process and confidentiality. I also would like to know if a test can be requested and paid for when testing is done. At this point I don't feel lucky enough that he will agree and I hate to pay a price with no test. But if I have the test when we meet, we can do and send it in. Communicating it by mail only means it may get done or may get set aside. If that is possible, then please do what ever it takes to get me on the wilson Dna testing. I think I have to have a special invitation or something to get the reduced group price. I also have found a line in Maryland that may get me another generation back, but again I have not contacted them about this and a letter I mailed 2 years ago was not responded to. I have a telephone number now! That means 2 test kits. Pat Killian
