    1. [WILSON] WILCOX - WILSON Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Orlo WILCOX which was taken at the J. W. Bates Studio in Payette, Idaho. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Orlo likely in his teens or 20's at the time it was taken. I also believe that this is the same Orlo WILCOX who appeared in earlier photographs I posted (July 2011) which were taken at studios in Oregon State. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Orlo and his family: Orlo K. WILCOX was b. 16 Jun 1881 in Corning, KS to parents Oliver Kent WILCOX (b. 6 Aug 1847 in MI) and Sarah Jane PURVIS (b. 13 Jan 1840 in Sullivan, IL). The couple had 4 children including, Francis Everett; Arthur Lemon; Oliver Wesley; and Orlo Kent WILCOX, all born in Wyandotte, Reno, or Nemaha Counties in KS between 1875 and 1881. Orlo married Bertha Emily WILSON (b. 22 Oct 1886 in Washington, KS) on 16 Jun 1909 in Linn Co. OR and together they had 7 children including, Helen Lucille; Donald W.; Mary Faye; and four others born in Oregon and Idaho. In 1910 the couple was in Fruitland, ID and Orlo died 16 Jun 1970 in Granada Hills, CA. I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to a member of this family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I have the book The Annals of Augusta County, VA. (1886, Waddell) and found record of Rev. William Wilson. I've looked at what was said about him several times and wondered who their children might be. I'm assuming that you have looked on the vital statistics of ancestry.com and saw that he died in Pittsylvania County, VA, 1834. Looks like he had slaves, but not sure if he had children, or who they were. Do you happen to know? I'm thinking that in prior searches I found the name of his wife, but don't see it tonight. I believe that our Wilsons came along this same trail, then went to Greenville County, S.C. Our GG grandfather was Alvin Wilson (b. 1816) and I've searched for years to find out who his father was. Other Wilsons in the area came as Quakers from Chester County, Pennsylvania, late 1700s and were there into the early to mid 1800s. Those who left seem to have gone to Indiana. My brother has DNA matches who went up that way, some still live in Indiana. One match had ancestry in Danville, VA. prior to the Civil War. Danville is in Pittsylvania County, so there is a strong likelihood that he would have been a son or grandson of William Wilson. Would be glad to share info with you. What is your Wilson connection? 3. Paula, You may want to look up the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road. The Great Valley Road branch. http://tradingpath.org is a good reference. A group of Wilson from Pittsylvania County, VA moved down to the Charlotte/Rock Hill area after fighting at the Battle of Kings Mountain during the Revolutionary War. Joseph Wilson was the father of more than one. Pittsylvania County has groups of several of those families you mentioned like Woodall and Wynn. I'm from a separate Wilson/Willson family that lived in Henry and Pittsylvania Counties. They did use the name Minerva in the later 1800's. My gr grandfather was William Henderson Wilson born in 1849. His father was Morgan J. Willson born in 1813. Other members of my Wilson's did migrate south then west like many from Pittsylvania County. Many ended up in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri. I've heard of another group of Wilsons that were Methodist preachers out of what is now West Virginia. They followed the route to Georgia and across to Texas too. 3. Today i found information that probably eliminates James Wilson. The Solomon I was trying to place in Baltimore did not marry Hannah Bell like I thought as He married Elizabeth Holsted and Frances Hodges, unless he had a third marrage. Hannah the daughter was born 11 July 1757 and married John FosterLeaverton 16 July 1781. 1. [WILSON] MANERVA WILSON-DAVID WENRICK-WILLIAM HENRY CLEMENS IN GA/ AL/PENNSYLVANIA
    2. TOM F DUNKLIN
    3. Looking for information on any of the people shown below. Hoping to find direct descendants of these people who might have family information or old family stories about them. I am open to any and all suggestions and theories which might help me in my research.   Thanks, Paula     MANERVA WILSON-DAVID WENRICK/WINDRIX FAMILY OF GA-AL and PENNSYLVANIA   Manerva/Minerva Jane Wilson b. ca 1847 GA according to 1850 Walker Co GA Census Daughter of: William & Sarah Wilson, who were born ca 1802 & 1812 in SC. Sarah's maiden name unknown Living in DeKalb Co AL per 1860 DeKalb Co AL census. Sarah is not shown on this census   Manerva is living in Jackson Co AL in 1870 per census. Shown in the home with husband, David Wenrick/Windrix, William Wilson (probably her father) and also aJosephine Cha?????  Census recording of the spelling of Josephine's surname is in question. Could be Chambers, Chalmers, Chansler, etc. Not sure how or if Josephine is related to either David or Manerva. Josephine born 1859-60 in AL; parents are unknown.   Manerva & David Wenrick/Windrix married June 15, 1869 in Madison Co AL per Madison Co AL marriage records. David has apparently died by 1880 as Manerva has remarried to William Henry Clemens and is shown in that home per 1880 Jackson Co AL census. The Clemens surname is often spelled Clemmons. Two Windrix children, Dollie A & William Windrix, are in the home but are listed as being Clemens, not Windrix. They should have been mentioned as step-children. Manerva Wilson Windrix Clemens applied for a minor’s pension for her son in Sept 1887 for David’s Civil War Service. On military records, William Clemmons is shown as guardian on Manerva's application. David’s name is spelled Windrix and Wenrick on various military records; Manerva’s is spelled Clemens and William Henry Clemens' as Clemmons.   David Wenrick/Windrix was born ca 1843 in Pennsylvania; parents unknown. His mother's first name might possibly be Margaret. David served in Co B 15th U S Infantry Regt and Co B 33rd  US Infantry Reg’t as a Teamster/Wagoner. David enlisted at age 21 on Jan 4, 1864 in Harrisburg, Dauphine Co PA under Capt. York, for a 5 year period. He was discharged in Huntsville, Madison Co AL on Jan 4, 1869 after the expiration of his service. He married Manerva Wilson 5 months later; not known how they knew each other, how they met, etc. Mutual family or friends??  David's description: Blue Eyes…Black Hair…Dark Complexion…height was 5’ 8” SOURCE: Ancestry.com; U S ARMY REGISTER OF ENLISTMENTS, 1798-  1914 RECORDS

    1. [WILSON] WILSON, John P. of New York state

    3. I'm researching the WILSON surname for ancestors who lived in Owego, Tioga Co. USA. and area. They are: John P. Wilson b. about 1785, who was married to Catherine. John died on Nov. 25 1864 and Catherine died on Dec. 1, 1864. I have found these 2 people in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census of Owego, Tioga Co. They had family listed in the 1840 one, but only the head of family name and then just numbers in age groups. As far as I can figure (without any concrete evidence) their children were: Catherine Jane - b. 27 July, 1808 Zipporah - b. 12 Oct. 1810 Barbara Anne - b. about 1811 James - B. Sept. 1815 R. (female) - b. about 1820 Not sure if any other children. I know that James became a doctor and after doing many other things like farming, traveling salesman, worked with a circus. He opened the Owego drug store on Lake Street in 1857 and started practicing medicine in Owego. He wrote a book called "The Family Companion and Physician on Reformed Botanical Principles and Treating of the Symptoms and Remedies of Acute Diseases" (long title) . He built the Wilson Opera House with brick blocks on North Avenue and built his residence on Main Street. With his son-in-law, Dr. P.S. Stearns, he built the Park hotel. He had a livery business with George W. Sweet. In 1876 he was elected as President of Owego Village. He was married 3 times and had a son named Dr. Darius Wilson who lived in Boston. He is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Owego. I do not have confirmation of any of this, just a letter from a relative to my aunt in 1979. Catherine Jane is my g. g. grand mother and I would like to find out more about her parents and siblings, and find vital documents and prove parentage, etc. if possible. There was another note that said that at least 2 of the children, James and Catherine, were born in Sharon Springs, Schoharie Co. NY. But again, no proof. Any help, suggestions or information regarding this family would be appreciated. Thank you, Judy Carleton Blackfalds, Alberta, Canada

    1. [WILSON] WILSON / EVANS in LLANGYNOG
    2. David Nuttall
    3. I am researching an EVANS family from LLANGYNOG, Montgomeryshire: ROBERT EVANS b.1844, (son of ROBERT EVANS b. DOLGELLY, Merionethshire 1844), and his wife JANE; their eldest son, ROBERT EVANS, b.1864, died in France, 1916, (married to HANNAH MARIA and living in MERTHYR TYDFIL at the time of his enlistment); other children, WILLIAM, DAVID, EVAN, JOHN, HUMPHREY, ELLINOR, OWEN, EDWARD. My interest in this family is that I believe the ROBERT EVANS who died in WW1 to be the brother of my grandfather ALFRED WILSON, born in LLANGYNOG c.1868. ALFRED WILSON gives his place of birth as LLANGYNOG on the 1911 census and on his Army Medical Papers; so, even if he wasn't actually born there, he would seem to have a connection with that place. Much of the information I have about him came from his daughter, my late mother. She told me that ALFRED WILSON’S father's name was ROBERT and that his mother's name was JANE EVANS. While he was away serving in the Royal Artillery, during WW1, she was going through his drawers, as you do, and found a piece of paper with a list of names on it; she remembered ROBERT, WILLIAM, EVAN, OWEN. These, she was told by my grandmother, were her father's brothers; some of them, my mother remembered, were called EVANS. ROBERT, she was told, had been killed in action in WW1.The only ROBERT from Llangynog to be killed in WW1 is ROBERT EVANS of Tynewydd, Llangynog and he is commemorated in the Memorial Hall, Llangynog and also on the War Memorial in Merthyr Tydfil. I have not been able to identify ALFRED WILSON on any census before 1901, Then he is living in HOLLINWOOD, LANCASHIRE with his wife MARY ELLEN BROOKS, whom he married in 1896, and working as a coal miner. Apart from attending a funeral in Wales during WW1 and receiving a surprise visit from WILLIAM (or EVAN), he appears to have had little contact with his family. My mother sent a telegram to somewhere in WALES when he died in 1928. I would be interested to contact anyone related to this EVANS family in LLANGYNOG

    1. [WILSON] George and Pheba (Halleck) Wilson
    2. Daniel Lewis Frommherz
    3. We thought that our marriage was in September 1850 however it turns out that the census for 1850 in Ray County, Missouri was in November. Therefore it is assumed that if the marriage occured on 5 September 1850 we would see a new son in law in the family group. Turns out that the record was to hard to read and a second source confirmed that the marriage was on 5 September but was in 1851. Below is the record that we used. If anyone has a copy I would appreciate any other info that can be gleaned from that record. Marriage source for Phebe and George is Marriage Records 1820-1850 and Will Records 1824-1849 of Ray Co., MO, Ministers and Justices, p. 43. I did find a second source that gives the year as 1851. I looked up the original photocopy on file and the handwritten ledger page was almost impossible to read. "George Wilson married Sept 5, 1851, Ray Co., MO Sh??y H??and" as transcribed. Source is MO Marriage Records 1805-2002. Finding the second marriage source explains the confusion with the year.

    3. While I do understand that this list is primarily for genealogy I cannot help but respond to the geographic statements made recently being that I am a 6th generation Oregonian of the Benton County King Family. Actually Oregon City is the old provincial capital of the Oregon Territory and to get to it in the early 1840 - 1850 era you wagoned from Linton on the Willamette River near its mouth at the Columbia River up the wagon road and across the Tualatin Plains then back to the Willamette River at Champoge transferring cargo to barges to be floated back to Oregon City. The reason was the Clackamas River Rapids and the Willamette Falls were just to much difficulty until one fine day a gentleman named Amos King decided to give it a go and pole his cargo up the Willamette River in a direct route. Portland Bye the Bye did not exist for most of this time frame and was nothing more than a Potty Stop when commodities were able to make the direct trip from Fort Vancouver to Oregon City. As for Sauvies Island the location is North of Portland as the Columbia River turns north at the mouth of the Willamette River (One of only 5 rivers in the world that starts in the south and ends in the North) to skirt the northern most end of the Coast Range Mountains. The Island is nothing more than a pile of granite rock pushed there when the Ice Dam Broke long before the Caucasian Settlers reached the area. In fact it is near there that the natural depth of the Columbia River is only 7 feet deep at high tide. Dan
