Okay now that we have everyone putting in their Wilson line I want to put this one in. John Wilson B. 22 Apr 1770 Where we don't know for sure D 31 March 1824 I think in Ohio Married on 28th of Nov 1793 in Caroline Co., Maryland Sarah Charles B. 25 April 1775 in Caroline Co., Maryland D. 24 Oct 1814 in Ohio Children was : 1. James WILSON ::: John WILSON was born 1795 in Maryland and migrated to Pickaway County, Ohio with his parents in the 1810s. I believe his father's name was James. I know nothing about his mother other than there was a "Widdow Wilson" in Walnut Township of Pickaway County, in 1831; and I have two photographs of his mother, probably copies of daguerreotypes taken in the 1840s. 2. Robert S. Wilson: born 1 Feb 1798 in Maryland dead on 5 Jul 1875 in Ohio 3. Nathaniel Wilson born in 1805 in Virgina There are two other possible siblings: James WILSON, Jr.; married 1st Mary WARD, 1820 in Pickaway County; 2nd Era BYERLY, 1825 in Pickaway County; and Dorcas WILSON, married William MORRIS (Rachel MORRIS' brother) in 1818 in Pickaway County. Is it possible that the "Widdow WILSON" mentioned in the 1831 Walnut Township tax list could have been Sarah CHARLES (born 1775 in Maryland), a member of the Nicholite Quaker sect who married James WILSON, November 28, 1793 in Caroline County, Maryland? Can anyone out there help me with finding James and Sarah parents. Sincerely Donna [email protected]

The version I heard was that Wilson came from a famous William Gunn. His son called himself Willson. Over time the name was shortened. The German part may still come into play. I have recently seen where Scottish Wilson's who have be extensively DNA tested showed a German strain of DNA. Gunn has commonly been thought short for Gunnar from Viking days. Now theory is leaning that the Picts (from which Gunn's descended) may have a good deal of German blood. You can google up Scottish sites to check out this info. Mark Wilson Charlotte, NC

I know that my G-grandfather James Lee Wilson was in Webster Co. WV. in 1880 living with his in-laws, the Lee family. I thought that the James L. Wilson in 1850 Barbour Co, 1860-1870 Upshur was my G-grandfather. I now am sure of it. I check the 1870 Upshur Co. census and find the Lee family. I'm sure this ties me from James L. Wilson, son of Daniel Wilson, son of William Friend Wilson, son of William Wilson Jr., son of William Wilson Sr. (father of Colonel Benjamin Wilson). I need help with finding Wills of these men. Greetings All and Happy New Year Trying to find something on my husbands family of "Wilson". We have had two different stories related to us by family members who do not agree on anything. Story one....Wilson is Scottish.....we are from the Gunn clan and have cousins who were married in the clan tradition, with full highland dress Story two.... Our Wilsons are of German descent. It was once written as Wolf-Wulf-son in the Old German way. Needless to say...I'm confused as to where to look exactly. I do know that my husband's maternal grandmother, Ina Magarete was of possible German descent...she was a Teague and the family has Moravian roots. In fact her first cousin was my parents' landlord in the early '60's and I went to Church for Love Feast with him and his family friends (he was a widower and had no children) That was loong before I met my husband and later learned this fact of relationship just before she died. So that information source is no longer available first hand. Her husband was John David Wilson. My husbands mother indicated that the family was of Scottish descent and mentioned the cousins' wedding etc. She passed in '89so we have no more information available first hand on that line of reasoning. Now it is being said that his family was known to be German with the name originally as "Wolfson" or "Wulfson" And from there the information available seems to dead end because the living relatives are just not interested. Sounds pretty mysterious hun? I cannot get exact marriage or bith dates out of anyone either! If anyone has a lead that they have come across in their own research please contact me. I would certainly appreciate it. John David Wilson mar. Ina Magarete Teague Lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina Children : Richard (desc) Barabara (desc) Husband's Mother Don (desc) Carolyn (living) Doris (living) ** Ina's father was the Chief of Police in WS at the last of the 1800's His name was Milton Erastus Teague and stories have it that he carried a "flask cane" with whiskey in it.** Any tidbit is better than nothing and that is what we have on the Wilson family right now. In advance thank you for taking time to read my inquiry. Sincerely.....Janet T. Webb
