I'm looking for a James Wilson who was married to Eliza M. James Wilson born abt 1776 Eliza M born abt 1770 Their son was Morgan Wilson born abt 1813 Chances are good that Eliza's last name was Morgan. Morgan Wilson ended up living in Henry County, Virginia. That is western Virginia just over the North Carolina line. Morgan's older children moved east to what is now Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Nancy, I'm interested in the Nile Wilson that you listed. I've come across "Nile" once in a Nile Wilson Braswell. I wonder if Niles Wilson was an in-law or a famous person in the public eye??? I'm not answering your question but raising another, sorry. Does this line, to your knowledge, have any connection to "Big Tom" Wilson, born in Yancey Co., NC in 1835? (See "Smoky Mountain News," 5/22/02.) My ancestress Malinda Wilson (m. David Alexander Welch) is thought to be related to Big Tom's line. We suspect a Cherokee connection, also. Malinda was born c.1810, so she was not Big Tom's daughter. Possibly an aunt or cousin. My line is New Jersey, KY Belle
I am looking for an Unknown Wilson man that married into the Cherokee Tribe, sometime in the early to mid 1700's. He had at least one son named Thomas Wilson,Sr was married 1st. to a Cherokee lady named Hicks and 2nd. to Betsy McCreary. Thomas SR had at least 3 sons: One son by Hicks was Thomas Wilson, JR., b.abt.1785, who worked as an interpreter for the U.S. / Cherokee treaties. His other son by McCreary was George W. Wilson, sr. b. abt. 1790 that married a Cherokee lady named Ruth Springston or Drumgoole (she went by both). I believe Thomas Sr. also had a son named John Wilson (Conoluski-sp?), but Ido not have any of his information. He was in Alabama.(no docs.) Thomas Wilson, SR was in the Cherokee Nation - in what is now GA- in the year 1834, and Thomas Wilson, JR was in NorthEast Alabama, and George Wilson, SR was at White Oak Mountain in TN, also in 1834. The same time, two of George Wilson, SR's sons, Alexander and Archibald was in the Mouse Creek and Candies Creek area. George, his family at home, his two sons Arch and Alex and one of the Thomas Wilson's emigrated to the new Indian Territory- what is now Oklahoma- arriving May 5, 1834- Lt. Harris company. I believe it was the younger Thomas Wilson that emigrated because a child of Thomas Wilson died in route to Indian Territory. Thomas Wilson, SR had at least one known sister, Katayeah(sp?) Wilson. She was married to Chief Doublehead of the Cherokee Nation. Since Thomas' sister has a Cherokee name, I do not know if their mother was Cherokee married to the Unknown Wilson, or if Kateyeah took the name when she married Doublehead. So either Thomas Wilson, SR was the first white to marry into the Cherokee line or it was his father that married a Cherokee and gave Kateyeah her name. My personal thought is that Thomas Wilson, Sr.s' Father was the first to marry into the Cherokee line.Making the first Wilson to have been born about 1730- 1745, giving that Thomas Wilson, SR was born about 1750- 1765 and Thomas JR. born 1785, unless there was alot more children born before in there. I am having trouble jumping from the Cherokee into the white genealogy. I would assume that at this early date that the first White man to marry into the Cherokee would have been a fur Trader. It was very common for a White man to take a Cherokee wife, even if he was already married to a white woman. This gave him a place to stay during trading times and more freedom to move about the Nation. It also makes it hard to realize that these early Traders lived two separate lives, one with each wife. Many people have told my that it couldn't be their Wilson because theirs were already married. So if anyone has a Wilson that was a Fur Trader in the early to mid 1700's please let me know. I just have the basic info on this line, but would like to get it back another Generation or two before starting on lateral lines. Any help, info, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Pat
