Hi, I think I have found my very elusive PHERELY WILSON. Is anyone working on the JOSEPH C (b.1798)and HOPE(b.1802) WILSON with 6 children, JOHN B & MARY JANE( twins), MIRIAM, PHERELY, RACHEL AND NATHAN of Guilford NC.
Thank you, Maybe it would. Maybe James S. followed the Ferrell's to Lewis. Maybe the reason that Ann (Ferrell)Wilson lives next to her father is that Lewis gave James and her land in Upshur. I've been thinking that his Wilson father might have given them land. It may be just conicidental that Valentine Siron was next door to Lewis Ferrell. Valentine was a nephew of Ann Siron. However, Valentine did not live relatively close to the Wilsons in the Frenchton area although they all lived in the Banks District which covered SW Upshur Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Al and Brenda" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 24, 2005 9:34 AM Subject: [WILSON-L] Samuel Wilson's, Sr.& Jr., Lewis Co. I now accept that Samuel Wilson that married Ann Siron is not the father of James S. Wilson of Lewis/Upshur Co. Does anyone have information on the other Samuel's in Lewis Co. <1830>? Or the Wilson's there in general. My James S. Wilson just did not appear there somehow in 1848 to marry Ann Ferrell. He was born in VA. about 1825 by the 1860 Upshur Co. census. On the 1870 Upshur census, his widow Ann has a Lewis Ferrell living on one side of her (I think her father) and Valentino Siron living on the other. House numbers in order taken 141, 142, and 143. James ties into the Lewis/Upshur Wilson's somehow. Maybe Samuel, wife Siron, was his uncle. Al Wilson

Hi Sue, The only SIDNEY WILSON I have found was in Huntsville Rockingham NC. His father was RJ (BOSLEY) but I'm not sure if this is even the right one. The age is about right.(b. 1854) I certainly would like to look into it. How much info do you have on the Sampson Co Wilson's ? Thanks for a new road to go down. Jane
Wish to exchange on an Algernon Wilson, Esq., who was in Charleston SC in late 1700s, probably had a son, Jehu. Jehu had a son, Jesse, who migrated to GA and then to Marion Co., MS where lived in 1812 and 1813. His father, Jehu, may have joined Jesse in that area. Lawrence County, Ms formed 1814 out of Marion County and Jesse was there. A Jesse WILSON was in the 1818 state census of Mississippi and the 1820 federal census of Lawrence County. He was on the Lawrence County tax lists for Falling Creek 1818-1820, on Shoals Creek 1822, and the Jesse WILSON "estate" was taxed on Halls Creek in 1824. It appears that Josiah Wilson b. 1804, was the son of this Jesse Wilson. Josiah shows up in Lawrence County Ms. as head of a large household in the 1830 census (possibly family of Jesse Wilson). Josiah did not marry Lucinda Hargis until December of 1830. Josiah Wilson and family remained in Lawrence County until about 1845 when he moved to Claiborn Parish, La. to an area in which Lucinda's Hargis relatives were living. Ray
I have a John YOUNG Wilson b. ca 1820 Sampson Co NC In 1854 he was still in central NC but by 1860 he had joined his older brother, EZEKIEL WILSON in Drew Co, AR. Ezekiel died in 1865 but there is no sign of YOUNG WILSON or his named children after that. I am wondering if Sidney Young Wilson could be out of one of the other siblings or cousins of the Sampson Co, Wilsons. Sue On Jan 24, 2005, at 12:15 AM, Jane Sawyer wrote: > YES, it is. Al, I finally found gr gr gr grandfather Wilson in the 1850 census. His name in that census was Morgan L. Willson. Two L's instead of one. The census takers spelled some of his children's names with two L's some with one. I'm trying to broaden searches to Willson after seeing that. Mark Wilson
Brenda, I'm looking for a Morgan Wilson coming from that general area. Morgan's descendants moved to Pittsylvania County VA. There is also a large Lewis family there. The Wilson's prospered during Reconstruction so they may have been associated with the Union in some way. Diane, Not to muddy the waters here, but are you sure he came down the Mississippi? I ask because it was common back then to travel down the Ohio River. Folks who originated in the Pennsylvania, Ohio or any points east used the Ohio. In the 1850's my mother in law's grandfather was a light keeper on the Ohio River. Back then his landing site "Walker's Point" ( this was the family owned site of my mother in law's grandfather) in Hanover, Indiana was a common and popular point to land. It is right near Louisville, Kentucky so it was a good spot for those who wanted to travel west thru Indiana or south into Kentucky or beyond. There were in 1850 several Wilson families in the Jefferson Co., Indiana area. I don't know if they are in any way connected but I thought I would pass this information on. You can go to: www.myindianahome.com and can search to see if you Ananias Wilson might have been in the area or even if any of the other Wilson's are connected to you. They are not of my line but both of my in law's families have extensive connections dating back to the 1840 not to mention they grew up there. No sorry they do not have any Wilson blood, only me. Upon looking at the early Lewis Co. census records, there are three Samuel Wilson's there. Two are Sr. and Jr., these are not the one I'm looking for. These two stay in Lewis County after the formation of Upshur. I think this family married into the McAvoy's. The Samuel I seek is the Samuel that ends up in Upshur Co after the county split. He had son's John W. and Gideon. I think he also had a son James S. Wilson, from a marriage before Ann Siron, the mother of John and Gideon. I found Samuel and Ann Siron's marriage record in Pendleton Co. they married Dec. 24, 1827. James S. Wilson was born about 1825, so Ann is not his mother. There is also another listing in Pendleton Co. for a Samuel Wilson marrying a Jane Armstrong, Nov. 28, 1819. I think she is James S. Wilson's mother, Samuel of Upshur Counties first wife. Ann Siron died in 1855. On the 1870 Upshur census, Samuel (age 68)is married again to a woman named Esther (age 46). Living with them is Eleanor Armstrong (age 65). I think this is Esther's mother. Which makes me think that this Samuel is the Samuel that married Jane Armstrong in 1819. Jane could have been Eleanor's sister, and Samuel kept in touch with the family. Maybe the family moved with him to Lewis/Upshur. There are Armstrong families living eight and five house's away from Samuel on the 1870 census. James S. Wilson married Ann Ferrell in Lewis Co. 1848. They are found on the 1860 Upshur census. So this fits with Samuel's family. Also, Samuel's sons John W. and Gideon volunteer for the same Union outfit as James S. Wilson, the 133rd, Company C. Their Company is captured at Centerville, 1863. James S. Wilson dies at Anderville Prison in Dec. 1863. Also, I found Samuel's death record,(d. March 17, 1881 H/O Esther S/O James and Elizabeth Wilson. This would be for whom James S. Wilson was named. I need help to find information that could prove my theory that Samuel was married before Ann Siron and that James S. Wilson was his son. Looking for any info on the ancestry of my gggrandfather, John Oscar Wilson, b. 29 Nov 1868 in Ellis Co., TX. He was married to Dora Sitton. In the 1880 Ellis Co., TX census I find John listed as a step-son of Stephen Lewis Akin. John's mother is listed as A.C. This could also be R.C. (A's and R's are similar in shape). I've also found Stephen Lewis Akin buried in the Keeter Cemetery in Wise Co., TX next to Rhoda Catherine Akin (R.C.?). Also listed in the 1880 Ellis Co., TX census as step-son is William L. Wilson, two years older than John Oscar. Middle name was likely Luther or Luke, according to a great-great aunt (daughter of John and Dora, stating that Uncle Luther or Luke used to visit them from Texas. My questions are who was John and Williams father? Was A.C. or R.C. (the mother) widowed? What was her real name and maiden name? Does anyone have any young Wilson men born in the mid 1840's that were killed or died in northeast Texas in the 1860's leaving a widow and two boys? Bryan
