Thanks. I know Margretta followed her brothers into Harlan County, KY. Her brothers were coal miners in TN and went to KY to find a job. Bell County is not far from Harlan County so they may have been going back closer to their parent's family when they left TN. Or they were just following the coal jobs. I'll check out more KY counties. -----Original Message----- From: wilson-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:wilson-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jan wilson Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 10:57 PM To: wilson@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WILSON] John Wilson TN or KY? In the book 'Clearfork and More' I did find mention of the Wilsons as being one of 60 families that were living in what is now Bell County, Kentucky (was Knox County then) before Middlesborough was founded in 1889. In the early 1800's the Wilsons bought land on Calloway, Pucketts Creek, Brownies Creek and Alva. There seems to have been more than one line of Wilsons in Bell County in those early days. The book includes a history of Clearfork and all the surrounding areas on both sides of the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. The state line between Kentucky and Tennessee was actually moved at one point so you might look at one census and see someone say they were born in Tennessee and a later census say Kentucky. I don't want to steer you wrong - I don't recall exactly when it was moved but if memory serves me correctly it was moved southwards. I am remembering that Thomas Walker determined the first line when he came into Kentucky but I don't remember how many years later it was redrawn. Will have to look it up. Maybe someone on the list has that information. You might want to look at the History and Families of Bell County, Kentucky if you have not already. There are about 10 biographies of Wilson men. Hello Dee, I would appreciate anything you can find and thanks for your interest. I use Anccestry occasionally, not a member and Yes, there are several John Edward McCormack's. This is kind of a summary to show you where I am in my searching. JOHN EDWARD McCORMA(I)CK & JOHANNA GLEA(E)SON McCORMACK He is my gggrandfather and went by Edward, born in Ireland 1828, came to the US around 1852. 1856... married Johanna Glea(e)son, possibly in Canada on 6/24/1856. Johanna also born in Ireland, b.1838(?) 1857...Had a son, Michael (b.4/22/1857) in Toronto, Canada. (This is my line) 1859...had a son Andrew in Canada 1860...in Oakland,Yalobusha Miss with Julia(Johanna) Mike & Andrew 1861...Andrew died 1862...joined Union Army @ Knoxville until 1865..patroled RR in Nashville. Have all military papers. 1863... Mary, was born 11/14/1863 and died 2/1/1864, lived 2 1/2 months. 1865... Daughter, Hanna(Johanna) was born & died 1947. 1867... (Feb) 1st wife Johanna died in (Waverly) Johnsonville Tn., probably in childbirth because there was a daughter, Sarah, which died. 1867...(May 24) Married 2nd wife, Ferby(Pharaby,Feraby??)WILSON.born 1838(?) NC Not previously married. No children. Married Edward in Benton Co,Tn 1870...Found in Verona, Ky where his brother(?) Nicholas had a farm and also married to a Johanna w/11 chr 1880...Still in Verona 1890 ? 1900....in Glenmore, Ware County, Georgia died in1902 Found a Edward McCormack age 25 on Suffolk Co, Mass census He mostly worked as a laborer on the Railroad. on the 1880 Ky census says his occupation was a druggest. I think his father was James and on the Apothecaries Hall list a James, Cork County Ireland 1826. Have not found any ship passage for Edward but I have found two possible ship passages on a Johanna gleeson. The ship "Jane" 1850 had a Matthew(40), Thomas(18), Lawrence(15), Johanna(12), John(6), which would make her b.1838. Have not found anything on Feraby Wilson, which is really not important because that were no children to this union, just curious. My search is to be able to trace Johannah Gleeson & John Edward McCormack back to Ireland and their place of birth, which I have not been able to find anything definate. Thanks for any help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dee's Genealogy" <dees.genealogy@gmail.com> To: <wilson@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 6:41 PM Subject: [WILSON] Wilson/McCormack > Jane, > > Do you have access to Ancestry.com? Dear Harold, This is the first mention that I have seen of Wilson/Willsons in Franklin Co. IN. My paternal grandmother, Sarah Olive Wilson was born in Salt Creek Twp, Franklin Co., IN. She married John A. Davidson Dec. 25 1865. They lived in Posey Twp, Franklin Co in the 1880 census. Her parents were both born in Indiana. Any help would be most appreciated. I am in the process of moving things around and can't access my paperwork at this point in time. Maybe by next week. They were very prolific - one of them had 13 children - lots of sons - not all named. I didn't find much mention in the Whitley County book about any Wilson or Hicks. Jane, Do you have access to Ancestry.com? There are several John Edward and Edward John McCormack's listed there. Tell me when he was born and I'll see if I can match one up for you. I'm looking for the possible siblings and parents of Benjamin Franklin WIL(L)SON (I've seen the name spelled both ways). He was born in April 1840 in Alabama. Census records state that his father was possibly born in Tennessee. The last time I have any record of him was when the family lived in Guyman, Oklahoma (in the panhandle). He married Mary A HOWELL (b March 1849 in Mississippi) in 1847 in Mississippi. What's interesting is that this particular WILSON family intermarried with the PATE and GUY families, especially on their way to Arkansas and then down into Texas. They had 9 children: 1 Virgil Buchanan Wilson: b. May 30, 1876 in Mississippi; d. July 3, 1925 Trumbel, Ellis County, Texas (died from colon cancer) + Ellena Nevada Anderson: b April 6, 1880 in Rock Creek, Pike County, Arkansas; d. Feb 3, 1920 Charleston, Delta County, Texas (she died from a brain aneurysm) 2 Bertha M Wilson: b. August 1878 in Mississippi 3 J Harvey Wilson: b. 1879 in Mississippi; d. March 23, 1890 in Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas + Sarah Emma Pate: b. August 1879 in Arkansas; 4 Modena Wilson: b. ca 1880 in Mississippi; d. in Liberal, Seward County, Kansas + Thomas G. Pate: b. October 1879 in Alabama; d. in Liberal Seward County, Kansas 5 Benjamin Wilson: b. December 1880 in Mississippi + Jennie: b. ca 1885 in Arkansas 6 Carl Wilson: b. August 8, 1884 in Mississippi; d. August 22, 1915 in Limestone County, Texas + Willie Hayes 7 Eula Wilson: b. April 1887 in Mississippi + W B Pruitt 8 Truly Wilson: b. December 1889 in Mississippi; d. ca 1915 + Beatrice Driskell: b. ca 1889 in Illinois 9 Emmett Wilson I haven't done any DNA because I didn't know if we had any male Wilson descendants. Just recently we did find one, so my mom, who recently got into contact with family she hadn't talked to in years will be asking. Hopefully we can find out where these Wil(l)sons came from. They were sharecroppers, which makes it even harder to trace them. Sondra

Susan, I just have to laugh when you run down your laundry list of bad guys in your Wilson Family. Yes, we all seem to have them. One of my guys even tried to burn his neighbors barn down and died in prison because of it. Asylum? Yup, that too. Even have one who used a shotgun to end his life, poor guy. Sad to say, I can't see where my Wilson's tie into yours, but keep looking. You never know when a tidbit will show up that starts a new line of research. Also, go back over those records that you haven't looked at in a long time. Sometimes you pick up a piece of info that wasn't important then, but in light of the additional info you have now, becomes important. You would think that there surely would be someone living among us today that could claim a kinship. NAMES OF WILLIAM'S CHILDREN: Benjamin W. E. Wilson (ca 1829 SC); Mary M. (ca 1837 SC); Abbey L. (ca 1838 SC); Martha A. (ca1839 SC); James (ca 1841 SC); Susy/Suzy C. (ca 1843 GA); Jerry M (ca 1845 GA) ; Minerva/Manerva J. (ca 1847 GA); Sarah E. (ca 1849 GA); and Abraham/Abram (ca 1851-1852 GA). They were in Walker Co GA by 1850 and DeKalb Co AL in 1860. Also had association with Madison County and Morgan Co AL, possibly Jefferson Co OK, and areas of East Tx in later years. Sure hope you have better luck than I've had.
