    3. Larry, I've seen FAG contributors banned for intentional duplicates. If you request a transfer for a relative that is in your direct line and within 4 generations, the memorial manager should transfer it to you. If they won't, forward a copy of your request to edit@findagrave.com an the will transfer it. Before using FAG it is recommended that you read and understand the FAQ's/rules    Dennis ________________________________ From: "LWilson181@aol.com" <LWilson181@aol.com> To: mrbil1@juno.com Cc: wilson@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, February 22, 2014 9:20 PM Subject: [WILSON] Linking Memorials in FAG Bill I agree that someone cannot link to a memorial posted by  someone else.  I have been successful at identifying and making contact  with the person who created it originally.  They can make the link with the  memorial number that you provide.  I have not experienced a turn-down by  anyone. I did find one created by another who never responded to my messages.  In that case, I simply created a new, duplicate memorial for the same ancestor  and did the linkages myself.  This has only happened once in all the  connections that I have made. 2. You are correct. Many FAG records include complete or partial obits - they give great clues that you might not otherwise know (survivors), some even include images of the death certificate or of the deceased. Finding obits and marker photos posted on memorials is VERY rewarding to any family history researcher! You are only partially correct on linking between parents & children. Only the manager of a memorial can create a link from a child to his/her parents after he has logged in to FAG. Links cannot be made from the parent to the child(ren). The only exception to the above would require using HTML in a biography area of the parent's memorial to link to a child. >From FAG's FAQ's How do I add a link from one memorial to another? In order to create a link in the biography of one memorial to someone else's memorial (such as the person's spouse or parent), you will need to use a bit of HTML code. It's hard to put into words, so here is an example (from Johnny Carson's biography which has a link to Red Skelton's memorial page): Pioneering Television Legend, Comic, Host. Carson began his entertainment career in radio but quickly moved to television. He moved to Hollywood to become a writer for "The Red Skelton Show." In the biography, you would need to type < a href="http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=XXXXXXX">Name < /a> where XXXXXXX is the GRid number of the memorial you want to link. The GRid is a unique id for each memorial and as such is the only thing within the entire URL that must be included. The "Name" is what will show up on the screen as a link. You will need to remove the space between < and a at the beginning as well as the space between the < and / at the end. The spaces were added here to actually show you the code. You can also use "Add relationship links" on the memorial page. You can add the links to father, mother, and multiple spouses. Adding this information will automatically post the reverse information to the linked memorial as well. 3. Find A Grave records can be linked from parent to child. You can create a family tree that can be easily followed from generation to generation - in both directions . Linking is easy if you create the records yourself . If someone else created the record you may have to contact the person and request the linkage. Some will even transfer management to you. 3. Anyone can add a record to find a grave. Every time I run across a person who I KNOW where was buried, I go to find-a-grave and be sure the info is there. Doesn't always help me, but may help someone else down the road. Neil: Have a Great-grandfather who was in PA for a while working in the mines. He didn't stay and he wasn't a Wilson. Sorry I can't be of any help. However, do you have the access to check Ancestry.com? If not, I do and would be happy to see if anything is there on your relative. Technically it isn't a genealogy site but with 118 million records it's a great resource with lots of helpful volunteers. I've found lots of burial records for my Wilson's in PA, ID and OK.   Dennis Wilson ________________________________ From: Neil Johnson <highlander@supernet.com> To: "WILSON-L@rootsweb.com" <WILSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 21, 2014 10:19 AM Subject: [WILSON] locating kin One site I use a lot is www.findagrave.com  A great place for finding graves and sometimes more - obituaries, etc Neil ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILSON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILSON-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. If you go to Find A Grave, you can search by name, by cemetery by county, by state by county. Since Wilson is a common name I am sure there are bound to be many buried. If you know where you want to look you can search.
