The 1851 census shows Thomas Willis, age 74 (which places his birth in 1777), a widower, living at 57 Market Street in Morpeth. He is listed as the head of the household and living with him are two granddaughters, Dorothy Longstaff, 12, and Jane Margaret Longstaff, 1. The record also gives his place of birth as Leybourne, in Yorkshire. His occupation is given as a retired printer. I have a question and a comment. I have been able to locate a town named Leybourne in Kent, but have not been able to locate a town by this name in Yorkshire. Does anyone know of such a locale? Also, I have found a little more information about Thomas Willis. He married Dorothy Nicholson and, while they were living in Morpeth had 8 children. I have the records of the Christening of these 8 children: James in 1813, Margaret in 1814, Dorothy in 1816, Jane in 1817, Thomas in 1819, William in 1822, Thomas in 1823, and Walter in 1826. If these names are in your family tree, I would love to share information with you.
