    1. Re: WILLIS-D Digest V01 #101
    2. Thanks Jan, This is a nice way to see the family of a lot of names we probably were searching to "fit" somewhere. Whenever I see Willis given names that seem to match,in N.C. or TN and dates that could be right, I keep it close at hand, trying to find other children of my William. Maybe some will get lucky, and find the one they are looking for. I hope I am one of the lucky ones, thanks again, I am glad I wrote to see why we were not getting the Digest, and you thought of this. Now we know, nobody was writing. Right?

    1. Re: WILLIS-D Digest V01 #100
    2. I think I started something that I like very much. Now, cousins, lets keep it up, we have enough family to ask about someone almost daily, certainly weekly, Here is my line starting with me: Estelle Marie Willis, born in Chilton Co. Alabama to Edgar Clifton Willis (Chilton)and Emma Lee Ellison, of Shelby Co Al. They had four children, I was the youngest, I really have only one or two memories of my father, he died at age 37. His father was Joseph Yerby Willis (Chilton Co) His Mother was Elenor Loutish Robinson who had been married for very short time before to a Benson, and they had one daughter, Lillian, who was my fathers half sister. There were five other siblings. My grandfather was called Joe, and was killed on the railroad on Chrismas Eve, in 1908. My grandmother had died in childbirth in 1902, my father was born in 1900, so he was an orphan very young, but the famiy all stayed together, Joe's oldest brother "Uncle Billy" helped rear them.My grgrandfather was Joseph Yerby Willis (Sr) born in N.C. and came to Alabama in the 1830'safter several years in TN. He married in 1842 in Coosa Co Al to Lettice Ann (Lettie) Williams, they had nine children. Most have stayed in the Alabama area, living around Shelby, where there was a booming iron works, and thriving towns, that are no more. His father was William Willis, from N.C.I spend most of my time looking for his family. All I have is the marriage to Cicily Coats in Rowan Co N.C. in 1812, and first child born there was James Wilburn in 1812. Two other children, born in Tn, Mary Margaret, ( Polly) who married James William Usrey in Shelby Co in 1850.John Wesley Willis,TN married Winifred (Winnie) Williams, sister to Lettie, in 1852 in Shelby Co Al. He was killed at chattanooga Tn in Civil War. So lets spend pleasant winter moments talking to each other, this way, Stella

    3. John William Willis my husband's ancestor was born in 1832 in Kentucky. County unknown and his parents names unknown. They moved to Mcdonough County Illinois. I now believe his mother was Nancy_______married before 1832 _________Willis. John William had a sister Priscilla Willis who married Robert Sanford in McDonough Co Ill and then migrated to Iowa. Another sister Sarah who married and moved to Washington State. Half brother Allen Boyd. Listed in 1870 census with John William Willis in Hancock county. He married and moved to Missouri. Half brother Aquilla Boyd. The only other clues I've had is that Maysville, Kentucky was named after John William Willis' mother. I have been unable to substantiate this. It may be just family tradition. I list the children of John William and Martha (Mauk) Willis as names are often clues to ancestor's names. Any help appreciated. Kentucky is a large state and county or first name unknown making this a difficult search.
