Hello again List. I forgot to mention to all that these families I posted today were all born VA from 1840 to about 1860 when some of them began to state to the Census takers that they were born PA. It was probably due to the Mason Dixon Line dispute. John S. Willis in that line told the Government when he enlisted in the Civil War, that he was born Monongahela, VA. This was in the Monongahela River area I think. I am aware that there is a Monongalia Co. in WV. I live in WV.Martha

I don't recall which family line yours is. I have learned a lot of new stuff over the past year, though. My Henry Willis Sr. was probably born PA, ca 1795. Married Nancy LNU, possobly Sloan, born the same as Henry. They moved from Pa to Monongahela River area, then to Marshall Co. now WV, then to Belmont and Monroe Cos in OH. About 1830-1840 they moved down to Meigs Co. OH, some of them living in Washington Co. OH, but all that area up and down the Ohio River was Washington Co. at one time. Children were: John S. Willis b 1819, married Julia Ann Mowder, Daniel Milton Willis who lived all his life in Monroe Co. OH and his wife Diana McGrew, Jeremiah Willis born 1820 born Marshall Co. died in Wood Co. WV where I live, Henry Willis Jr, lived out his life in Meigs Co. OH. William Willis born Marshall Co. WV 1822, died Wood Co. WV, Mary A. Willis born 1838 OH, Martha A. Willis born OH. 1847 and George W. Willis born 1866 OH, census records say son, but more likely a grandson. Also there was another William Willis, possibly a brother to Henry Sr, who was born ca 1813, VA, who traveled and lived beside them all their lives. He and Jeremiah and William and a lot of the children of John S. Willis (John died in the Civil War, served from Meigs Co. OH) moved from Meigs Co. OH to the Parkersburg area where I live in Wood Co. WV. I have a file on these people and all their descendants that is at least 100 pages. Hope we meet up with some of these Willis families one of these days, Oma. Hello List. I was in touch with a man a while back who was a descendant of these two people. I have a ton of info for him but lost all my files due to a virus last Christmas. If anyone knows who he might be or if anyone else needs any info on this family please just ask. Daniel Willis was born ca 1815, son of Henry Willis Sr and Nancy (last name unknown.) Thanks, Martha Cross Sargent
Brothers, Agerton, George, Benjamin and Daniel Willis moved to Bladen Co NC from New Hanover Co NC to Bladen Co NC. I am researching George Willis who settled in eastern Robeson County [Bladen County before 1787]. Many of his descendants still lives in that area today. Gena B. Is anyone on this list researching the Wyllys surname? My line starts with John Willis, MA, 1630-1680, to Rufus Wyllys, western MA to western NY, 1800-1870 and on to several Wyllys families in the vicinity of Hillsdale, MI, 1850---. I would like to compare and share information. Katherine Wyllys Paty
Hello all Would anyone on the list have any connections to the WILLIS family who lived in Calstock or Tavistock (or any other part of Devon) during the 1850s? In particular, William WILLIS, born 1854, the son of Richard WILLIS. Would love to hear from you. Jan Yamba, Australia

I had posted this some time in the past and now have discovered through census info that John was born in New Jersey, not New York.....wanted to see if anyone knew anything about him with this new information. My family descends from John B. Willis who was born about 1825 in NJ. He married Elizabeth Strange who was born Abt. 1821 in Highland Co., OH. They were married 6-23-1849 in Knox Co., IL. They had at least 3 children: Peter Vandorn Willis - born 2-4-1851 John B. Willis, Jr. - born Abt. 1855 Charlotte Willis - born Abt. 1859 Looking for any information on this family.
