I have just found a file reporting a Jane Willis b. 23 Aug 1804 in Randolph Co. NC married an "Unknown" Williams. I know Daniel Mc Daniel from a marriage bond married a Jane Williams in Randolph Co. date 13 Oct 1828. I suspect her pb as either Chatham or Randolph Co.'s. Can anyone find a place from this information in their known family groups? I can share later family groups. Ron
Hello all, First I would like to thank everyone that took time out of their busy schedual to send a card to my grandpa, William Jess Willis. It ment a lot to him to know that there are other Willis' out there that care. Thank You. I have had a break through in my search for James Wylie Willis. I found him in the 1880 and 1900 census for Jackson Twp, Reynolds Co., MO along with his parents and siblings. I don't have access to the 1850, 1860, or 1870 census at this time so I'm hoping one of you will recognise one of the knew names and then we will both have made a new connection. So here goes: James C. Willis was born in Jun of 1835 in IL (I believe). He served in the Civil War (Union side) with the 38th IL Infantry. He married Mary A. ? in about 1860. They had the following children: Cynthia E. Willis (b.12 May 1861 in MO - d. 16 Jan 1918 in AR) married William Gastone Vanover. Mary E. Willis (b. 1867 MO) married Mases A. Radford on 18 Dec 1884 in Jackson Twp, Reynolds Co., MO Sarah Jane Willis (b. 1869 MO) married W.G. Hart on 16 Dec 1886 in Jackson Twp, Reynolds Co., MO James Wylie Willis (b. 19 Apr 1871 MO - d. 5 Jun 1954 in Belzoni, Murpheys Co., MS - bur. Oakland Cemetery, Jackson Co., AR) married Martha Ann Harper abt. 1894 in MO. Margaret Willis (b. 1873 MO) If this looks familar please let me know. I am so excited to finally find this much that I don't want to have another dead end just yet. Thanks, Melissa in TX
Rev. Daniel Hubbard Willis, Sr. Rev. Daniel Hubbard Willis, Sr. (b. Dec. 28,1817; d. Mar. 27, 1887) was my great-great-grandfather. He was the son of Agerton Willis and Sophie Story Willis and the grandson of Rev. Joseph Willis and Rachel Bradford Willis. He was born on Bayou Boeuf, in Louisiana. He married Anna Slaughter (b. May 29, 1820 d. Mar. 24, 1876) on March 15, 1838 in La. Both are buried at the Amiable Baptist Church Cemetery near Glenmora, La. Their children were: Daniel Hubbard Willis, Jr. (1839-1900), Eliza Willis Flowers (1842-1901), Mary Jane Willis (b. circa 1845), David Willis (b. circa 1846), Martha Willis (b. circa 1847), Matthew Willis (1848-1925), Dempsey Willis (1854-1919), Calvin Willis (1855-1911), and Robert Willis (1858-1939). He was the first of Rev. Joseph Willis' many descendants to follow him into the ministry. Daniel was called by W.E. Paxton's in "A History of the Baptist of Louisiana, from the Earliest Times to the Present" (1888) "…one of the most respected ministers in the Louisiana Association." He established many churches and was blind the last 22-years of his life. His daughter would read the scriptures and he would preach. He was pastor of Amiable and Spring Hill Baptist Churches for many years. The Louisiana Association minutes record, in 1856, that: "Elder D.H. Willis was a missionary in the Western part of the Association at the rate of $400 per year. Although in ill health he 'traveled 1840 miles, preached 84 sermons, delivered 44 exhortations, visited 115 families, baptized 19, restored 2, settled one difficulty, started 3 prayer meetings, and one Sabbath School, preached at 21 different places...'" He settled on Spring Creek near Long Leaf, La. at a community called Babb’s Bridge. His daughter-in-law, Julia Ann Graham Willis, said he was the best man she every knew. The plea is that hopefully there is someone on the list whom is looking for the family of Philip Willis in Bristol, England circa 1820 - 30. He was my ggg grandfather and everytime I link into the family - children being baptised, I end up with another dead'un. Philip was a mariner, married to one Elizabeth Williams and I haven't been able to find this either - they had the following children: John Nicholas baptised St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol 1821 died several months/years later. Thomas Robert baptised St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol 1824 Jane Elizabeth baptised St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol 1828 died 1833 John Nicholas baptised St. Mary Redcliffe, Bristol 1831 dies 1833 - he and Jane died within a week of each other. Problem....there is no other John Willis being baptised in St. Mary Redcliffe between 1833 - 1836 I have his marriage certificate stating parentage, occupation, age, place of birth......but can't find him. This information gives the date of birth as circa 1830... so if anyone has any suggestions - and links or ties..... please please please pass them on..... also re Wiley Willis I am interested in Anna whose people say she was full blooded Indian. My family tradition says we have Indian blood and I would love to know more about it. I am descended from Tabitha Willis the daughter of Henry Willis and Nancy McKnight(?). Henry Willis had land on Rich Creek in what is now Monroe County West Virginia. The marriage record for Tabitha Willis and Charles Cooper the son of John and Elizabeth Cooper dated 1802 is in Monroe County West Virginia. Charles Cooper moved to Laurence County W.Va. Tabitha died ca 1824 and Charles ca 1836 in Greenville County Kentucky. They had a son Charles that the family said "REALLY SHOWED THE INDIAN BLOOD". but of course they would not tell any more about it. I am descended from Mary Cooper a daughter of Tabitha and Charles Cooper who was sister to the Charles who showed the Indian blood. Mary married 1835 William Smith Dickerson in Greenville Coounty Kentucky (this is where the Wiley comes in). They moved to Davies County and named their first child William Wiley Dickerson. They lived near Civil Bend in Davies County. Can any one help me with my Indian? I would love to be in touch with the descendents of Anna the full blooded Cherokee.
I'm looking for the parents of James Spottswood Willis of Hanover Ct., Va. He was born around 1850 & died 1942 in Richmond. Does anyone know anything about him? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

I need help. A few years ago my grandmother hired a genealogist. She said that my line went from me, to my mother, to James Bruce Willis, to Alfred Hultz Willis, to Elias Willis, to Isaac Willis, to Robert Willis. But she said that Elias was born in Maryland in 1826, which I cannot confirm. But I do know that he lived in Ohio before he had a parting of the ways with his father (Isaac) then moved to Illinois and died in Kansas. The problem is, that the Isaac he has been linked with lived in Ohio, but never went to Maryland. Perhaps Elias was born in Pennsylvania. But another researcher has told me that I have tied into a wrong line, Because Isaac from Ohio never went to Maryland. I have a copy of Tobert's wil and the paper that Isaac filed when he contested the will, which is from Ohio. Does anyone out there know anything about this family that can help me? My grandfather (James Bruce) left this world many years ago and left so many unanswered qquesstionss about hi! s family. My mother's memory is failing, so I do hope that someone may know about this. My grandfather was a veteran of World War I and was a doughboy. He had family in California, Iowa, Ohio, Colorado. Help please. Sherrie Eden
