The following new message has been added to the Williams Genealogy Forums, on the Williams Genealogy board under the existing topic of Re: John C Williams and Francis Robinson from South Carolina... -------------------------------- Hi, I've been tracing what is probably a second couple named John C. Williams with wife Frances who I think may be connected to my family. I've been looking at John C. Williams (born about 1815 in GA) married to Francis Mann? (born about 1820 in NC). There are many similarities to your couple. They show up in Fayette County, GA in 1840 in Captain Simm's District where John C. Williams (age 20-30) is in a household with a young male (age 0-5), a female (age 20-30), and a male slave (24-36). Marriage records for Fayette County record a John C. Williams married Francis Mann on June 2, 1839. In 1850, they are in Paulding County, GA: John C. Williams (age 34) a farmer born in GA, Francis (age 30) born in NC, Jonathan (age 10) born GA, Mary F. (age 8 ) born GA, Martha (age 6) born GA, and Green M. (age 1) born GA. They are right next door to a widow Mary Williams (age 51) born SC who appears in 1860 Carroll County, GA with my Gr-Gr-Grandfather Edward Williams (1820-1905) and Gr-Grandfather Isaac (1845-1910) who were apparently boarding with her family. Mary has in her household Mary (age 21), Thomas (age 19), Grun (Green? age 16), and Elizabeth Jane (age 13) - all born in Georgia. In 1860, John C. (age 45) is found in nearby Polk County, GA with Frances (age 43), Jonathan D. (age 19), Mary (age 17), Martha (age 15), Green M. (age 10), Sarah E. (age ?), John L. (age 4), and Thomas R. (age ?). In 1870, they are still in Polk County: John C. (age 54) is in household with Frances (age 52), Martha (age 22), Green (age 20), Sarah (age 17), John (age 14), Rufus (age 10), and James M. (age 8 ). I did check Henry County, AL and in 1860 found as you noted John C. (age 59) with Frances (age 60), with John Jr. (age 14). They are there in 1870: John C. (age 47), Frances (age 59), and a female (age 28) in a household headed by a name I can't read Sarah A. ? (age 30), Moses (age 7), and a girl (age 1), Catherine (age 28). Perhaps these are relatives. So I guess, despite many similarities, your Williams couple in Alabama is probably not the same as the one I am tracing in Georgia. But the similarities are such that we might want to keep in touch and be on the lookout for any other connections. I'm not even sure of the connection between this John C. and Frances and the widow Mary and the connection between Mary and my Edward, but I'm chasing this down because it is my best lead. I'm also checking to see if this John C., and widow Mary are connected at all to Thomas Williams and Rebecca Steed (from Randolph County, NC) who moved from NC to SC and then on to GA ending up in Fayette County, GA. My DNA tests (Group 22) connect me to a Randolph County, NC Williams line.
