    1. Re: [WILLIAMS-DNA] Questions about TNG module
    2. Hi Phil and others, I'm responding to Phil's message through our group list because he asks some very good questions. First, we have no standards in the TNG module for documentation of sources and/or proof. I think that traditional genealogical sourcing applies, BUT I'm about to contradict myself here. Obviously, we all want documented sources, but sometimes we have to rely on family history until we can find an original source. Remember, the purpose of our site and the project is to further our research and our trees. Secondly, keep in mind that the gedcoms on the site are for informational purposes and shouldn't be automatically be accepted as proof of genealogical lines by other project members. Through the use of TNG, we've had a couple of members whose gedcoms have changed after other project members provided them with sourced data that changed that person's pedigree. This is extremely valuable to our project members and one of our goals. (Also, only project members can access the gedcoms in the TNG module. These are not available to the general public.) Yes, census data is a source in genealogical research. Regarding the different Williams lines, you should create two gedcoms for these different families if they are not connected in any way. You can do this fairly easily through your gedcom software. The bottom line is that if we all waited until every relationship within our gedcoms was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, we probably wouldn't have any gedcoms on the site! The purpose of putting our information out there is to help each other and learn more about our families. I hope I've answered your questions, Phil. If not, please let me know.
