Regarding your warning about the PDF virus and Adobe Reader, I sent a query to my son (who is expert in such matters). He confirmed that this is not a hoax but a very real threat. He also sent me this link which gives some interesting info and a link to download Adobe Reader 8: http://www.informationweek.com/news/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=196801513 __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Y'all, A colleague of mine just passed this link to me that relates to a story on MSNBC about a major flaw found in the Acrobat reader plugin that nearly all of us use. Please read the article and act accordingly. I am researching to ensure this is a true problem and not yet another hoax...and if I find anything to the contrary, I will let everyone know immediately!! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16464910/ Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ http://www.dna-pat.com/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Downloading IE7 is a personal preference at this point, however I can give my own 2-cents worth on it. Personally, I upgraded from IE6 to IE7 and became so frustrated with the new software that I uninstalled it....which, to me, is kinda interesting anyway since IE is not my primary browser. I use FireFox almost exclusively at this point. It is a very stable and secure browser that appears to work with nearly anything that is thrown at it. And, IE7 appears to try to mimic many of the functions that are already in use with FF...says something to me when Microsoft starts to copy other folks' stuff. As far as the Williams site and IE7 goes, the only parts of the website that IE7 chokes on (to the best of my knowledge) are the results pages (matched groups and unmatched group). IE7 doesn't interpret the scrolling tables correctly and doesn't even come close to rendering them in a readable format. However, the printable results are a good workaround for that issue. So, in the end, my personal preference is to download and use FireFox instead of using IE...but to each his own!! Adrian Frank Williams wrote: > I have not downloaded IE7. Y'all, Just to remind everyone using IE7...although the individual matched group and no-match tables aren't working correctly in IE7, you can still access the results in the printer friendly version of the results page, which is generated directly from the most recent results in the database. I continue to work on the IE7 problem and will keep working on it until I get it fixed. I just haven't gotten in the habit of going to "the boards", etc. since IE7 limits my ability to follow the happening on the WILLIAMS DNA Project. Just getting through the posted e-mails that I receive directly seems to take too much time, especially DNA NEWBIE. I work on lots of different surnames in different areas, it seems to "pull-apart" my effort on any one surname. I have many common names, if I "zero" in on one, I would have had years of no progress on it. The following new message has been added to the Group 51 board under the new topic of Family DNA options... -------------------------------- Hi fellow DNA pacipitants; There is a very interesting option on the Family Tree DNA site. If you returned your signed release form, the names and e-mail addresses of people who match you closely or exactly are listed here. You can set it up to show your matches with your Surname matches but you can also set it to show all DNA that matches your DNA whether or not the surname is the same. This shows where your ancestors selected surnames that were diferent from yours and for all intents and purposes these are all distant kin of yours. To do this : first log on to the Family DNA site ; http://www.familytreedna.com/default.asp Second Click on setup Preferences, select the second selection that says - I want my matches to be set against the entire database, leave rest of selections set as they are, Go to yDNA matches. You will see a lot of distant kin with the same DNA as yours. After you are through looking at it you can change your selection back to show only matches that show your Surname. It's very interesting to see the diversity of different Surnames that your DNA matches. Also please post your information about your ancestors so that other people that match your DNA can compare the information and see if they can match ancestors with names in your research. I first posted this on the main board but I decided that I should post it on Group 51 just so any of our group could see it quicker without reading it on another board. Thanks Harvey Williams

Dorothy and y'all, There has been a bit of consternation the last couple of days about a rumor that you have to be subscribed to Ancestry in order to use the rootsweb mailing lists. I have not seen any emails from Ancestry or evidence that this is the case. Unless something changes, there is no charge for using the mailing list and I am not aware of any plans to do so. I will keep my eyes peeled for anything to the contrary and if something does come up, I will certainly let y'all know. By far, the huge majority of testers have been R1b with a sizable showing from both the "I" and "G" haplogroups.
