    1. [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - Match with another surname
    2. The following new message has been added to the Group 32 board under the new topic of Match with another surname... -------------------------------- At Adrian's suggestion I increased my test results from 37 to 67 markers. At about the same time I received an email from a Bailey surname project member saving we were a 37/37 match. His was also increased to 67 and now we have a 67/67 match. I do not know the probability of a coincidental match of different surnames at that level but I assume it is small. His line only goes back to 1830 with confidence and the known families are never geographically close to that point in time. I am uncertain if he should be added to the group or if a posting like this is enough to raise the potential issue. Any thoughts?

The pedigrees open in a new window without issue. However, I cannot tell you whether or not things are ok in IE 7....personally, less that a week after I installed that version, I became so frustrated with it that I uninstalled it. That said, I know of at least the one problem in IE7 with the scrollable results tables and am trying to find someone who can help me solve it because the problem is quite complex. Hopefully before long, I will get that fixed. Adrian

I still get a "Page Not Found" error. I think this must be an IE7 issue, since I could view the pedigress when I had IE6. Are any other IE7 users having this problem? I posted a query to Microsoft asking for a solution. If I receive an answer, I'll post it here. Catherine

    2. The following new message has been added to the Group 35 board under the new topic of Interested in WV lines of Williams ... -------------------------------- I am new to this site and am interested in any group of Williams who are from WV. My mother, Adeline Williams was d/o Brant Williams, Brant was s/o Dison Williams, Dison was s/o Richard Williams, Richard was s/o John Williams. All were in WV. John is our earliest known ancestor and we are thinking of getting some dna testing done. John was born about 1773 in Greenbrier Co, Va (now WV) and died in Braxton Co, WV. Our question was, should we join this group or start a WV Williams group. Our Williams ancestors are in central WV.

    1. [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - Williams-group 31
    2. The following new message has been added to the Group 31 board under the new topic of Williams-group 31... -------------------------------- I've checked here from time to time, and no one has written anything. I'd sure like to see some activity for group 31, so I decided no time like the present...being a new year and all...to leave a note and hope that others will add to it. My father's people have been in Washington county, Ala. since the early 19th cent., coming apparently from South Carolina or Georgia, perhaps via Fla.  There are two Williams living in Wash.Co. at the right time with sons names George W and daughters named Sarah...one was born in S.C., the other in Ga. My gut feeling says that James Williams (from SC) is the correct line to follow, but I've been unable to find any conclusive evidence to that fact.  All I know for sure is that George W Williams m. Sarah ( Warrick) Loper (dau of James Madison Warrick)  in 1870. My grandfather, Walter was b. abt 1873 but in the 1880 census was living with an uncle George Batley. There is no 1890 census, but in 1900 he appeared to be living alone and in 1910 he was living with a half sister and her family, next door to Martha Jane (Jones) Hopkins, whom he married abt Sept of that year. So there is no census that shows Walter Coleman Williams living with his parents. Did they die young?  I have yet to unearth probate or death records for George or Sarah, so I don't know. I have sent for Walter's death certificate 3 times, only to get someone else's each time, but never his. Most of the DNA records of matching people (those few who have given their gedcoms) show that their families came from Va. So, I'm assuming that George's ancestors came down from Virginia to S.C. quite early. James (the predicted father of George W.) was b. S.C. abt 1804. James Williams m. Mary Phelps (b Miss), dau of Wm and Margaret Phelps of SC.  James' parents were Benjamin and Sarah (Turner) Williams of SC, and Sarah Turner was daughter of John and Mary Ann.  Like many of you, most of the matching DNA studies (even the 37 marker) show us matched to people of different surnames...all different, not even a similar thread there. There are only 4 Williams listed at the 12 marker level and  they are all one 'genetic distance' from Andrew (i.e. 11/37). There is one Williams listed at the 37 marker level with a 3 'genetic difference' noted. I'd love to have the other Williams from group 31 post their history information and let's see if we can make 2007 more productive!  If anyone has any thoughts on my family, listed above, I would really appreciate hearing from you.   Thank you and have a wonderful New Year!! 1. [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - New Years Resolutions for the DNA Project
    2. The following new message has been added to the Williams DNA Project board under the new topic of New Years Resolutions for the DNA Project... -------------------------------- Y'all, I have been pondering a lot lately and have thought quite a bit about our project and where some things need to be done. I figured I'd lay these thoughts out here and solicit assistance from project members to help these dreams become reality!! In order to do this, I need to delegate some of this stuff off to folks and, I'd really like to create some "permanent" positions out there for the future needs. First, something I have been trying for a long time to do, with mixed success, is to get every lineage in the project defined and loaded to the website, either in a simple html format or in the TNG module. A few months ago, I did a call for lineages and received a dozen or so...some of which I still need to get loaded (dangit...where'd I put that third arm?!?!)...But, there are still a large number of lineages missing in our project and without them, the dna testing is practically useless. This brings up the first position I'd like to see filled....Lineage Coordinator. This position would be responsible for collecting/managing all of the project participant lineages, both the Word format as well as the TNG uploads. This person would have 4 primary responsibilities: 1.) Contact participants and obtain the lineages that are currently missing from the project and 2.) Work with matched groups to put together the lineages for the groups and 3.) Work with folks to upload their GEDCOM's to the Pedigree module of the website and 4.) Generate a high-level "report" of sorts of the ancestries represented by testers in the project. This will require, above all, a good amount of spare time and dedication as it is one of the most critical pieces of the project and there is a lot of work to do. You will need a good working knowledge of MS Word and a comfort with navigating the pedigree module (TNG). And, this may need to be split into two positions...Lineage Coordinator and TNG Pedigree Coordinator with the latter being the tasks needed to get folks to upload their GEDCOMs. My thinking on the TNG Coord is that person will need to ACTIVELY pursue existing participants to get them to upload their GEDCOMs to the system. The next position would be Groups Coordinator. This person would be responsible for two primary aspects. First, he/she will be responsible for working with the matched groups and putting descriptions together for the groups. These same descriptions will be put by the Groups Coordinator into the Forums group boards descriptions. Additionally, this person will be charged with working with the groups to identify Group Leaders for each group to act as the liaison person for that group. This position will need someone who is comfortable working with people and comfortable with working in the Forums.i I would also like to see someone step up to become the Y-Search Coordinator. This person very specifically has the challenge of getting all of our participants to upload their results to the Y-Search database so that they are available worldwide and easily comparable to other testers lineages. We have found a couple of surprise matches out there using this database. Additionally, this person would need to track the Y-Search IDs and provide me with that information so I can keep our database up to date. There are a couple of areas that I'd like to see us pursue are 1.) Williams Surname History/Origins: There are a number of sources for our surnames origin including William the Conquerer, the helmet maker skillset (Guilliams) and patronymic naming conventions. There are a number of coats of arms out there as well as notable Williams families. I think this will probably take a couple of folks to work on but I'd really like to see this level of information out there since much of it relates directly to what do. 2.) Something else that I think is VERY important to us is to get all of the 12-marker kits that are currently in matched groups, upgraded to 25 markers or more. There are a large number of these and 12-markers is simply not very effective for our surname. I am not sure what the best approach to this is, whether it is a person who works on it or simply and overall effort of all groups. I am open to ideas. 3.) I have been talking with one of our UK participants to try to figure out what we need to do to encourage more participants from across the pond. That, coupled with a large discussion recently between GAPs, I have a "holy cow" understanding of why this has been such a difficult challenge. I'll make a separate posting later on to go over that, but I think that we may need some type of UK/Wales Coordinator be the point person to work on getting overseas participation. Thoughts?!?! Obviously these are all volunteer positions but I'd like to ask that if you are thinking of stepping into one of these roles, please be sure that you will have the time to give the position as most of them will need it. I appreciate everyone considering these and if you have something that I have left off that our project should address, please let me know!! As always, Adrian

He married Cassandra Prather. We are currently researching Joseph Williams and wife Lydia as the parents of Daniel, but this has not been proven. Joseph and Lydia Williams, Providence and wife Sarah, and Ann Williams Poulson/Paulson were siblings and in Frederick County, Maryland in 1733 before going to Orange Co./later Frederick Co., Virginia. There is a possibility that our Daniel was married first to a Frances Griffin. The following were children of Daniel and Cassandra. Josiah Williams b. abt. 1764 probably in VA. and died April 9, 1865 in Hickman Co., Kentucky Josiah married his first cousin, Abigail Williams, daughter of Providence Williams and Elizabeth Gary first. 1. [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - John Williams and wife Ann Whitley...
    2. The following new message has been added to the Group 9 board under the new topic of John Williams and wife Ann Whitley...... -------------------------------- Some from Group #9 seem to agree that this DNA group 9 stems from the marriage of John Williams b. abt 1650 and his wife Ann or Elizabeth Ann Whitley b. 1654, daughter of Capt. John Whitley Sr. and wife Ann Moss. Others feel that John Williams b. abt 1650 also married Anne Moore b. abt 1637. I feel that these are two different men, and that possibly the John williams b. 1615 who I believe married Anne Moore b. abt 1637 could be the parents of the John Williams b. abt 1650 who married Ann Whitley. Is there anyone else working on this line? Children of the John Williams/Ann Whitley marriage are: Elizabeth Ellen (m. Wright), Mary Sophia (m. Browne), Bridgett Ann (m. Browne), John (m. poss. Jones & Pope and poss. others), Richard (m. Sarah Daughtry), William (m. Mary Moore), Thomas (m. Susannah Crews Blount), Jonathan or Jon of John (m. poss. Mary Keeling or Keeting and/or Mary Womack), Mary (m. John or Daniel Williams), Jane (died infant), Nicholas Hunter (m. Ann Lewis), Theophilus (d. infant), Eliza (no info.). At present I have the children of John Williams b. 1615 and wife Ann Moore b. abt 1637 as follows: George (poss. m. Susannah Clark) , Mary, Rowland, John (poss. m. Ann Whitley), Elizabeth, Thomas (poss. m. Mary budd), Anne, Sarah, Lewis (m. Mary Walburton), William, Samuel. If you have any information about these families and can confirm dates or records, please let me know. I cannot vouch for absolute accuracy, and welcome anyone who feels that this information is incorrect. THANKS. Gerri Williams

    2. The following new message has been added to the Williams Genealogy Forums, on the Williams Genealogy board under the existing topic of Re: William Williams 1727-1791... -------------------------------- "Also looking for a Joseph Williams who married Martha Parrott" I am a descendent of Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr. and Martha Parrot. There is an extensive amount of research that has been completed on that line and available on the internet. Google "Lodwick Williams" and follow through Lodwick's son Edward. There you will find the Rev. Jospeh Williams Sr. There is unproven link is between the Rev. Joseph Williams, Jr. and the Rev. Jospeph Williams, Sr. If that link is proven the oldest male ancestor in what is now the US appears to be previously mentioned Lodwick Williams, an indentured servant from Wales who arrived in Jamestown, VA via St. Christopher in 1664. After he served the term of his contract he relocated to Albemarle,North Carolina. The Jamestown website has copies of the list of indentured servants that mention Lodwick. I have tired to locate Lodwick's ancestors in Wales with little success though I did discover one interesting lead. Some researchers have tried to link Lodwick to Thomas S. Williams of the Mayflower. This has been disproven. Lodwick may have been the son of another Thomas Williams, also an indentured servant who went to St. Christopher at the same time as Lodwick but this remains unproven.
