    2. The following new message has been added to the Williams Genealogy board under the new topic of Williams Ebb Williams b. 1877 Texas, found on Carter Cty, Oklahoma Census 1900... -------------------------------- My great grand father is listed on the 1900 cenus,Carter County, Oklahoma Indian Territory. I believe is first name is William but he went by Ebb. He was married to Minnie Gamel Williams with one child Floyd. His name is difficult to read so I am not sure if the first name was actually William or something else that started with a W. I know his son Hayden Williams listed him as Ebb Williams on Haydens social security application. He was born 1877 somewhere in Texas. Married Minnie Gamel, who was one daughter of Kate Gamel in May 8,1897, and they were living in or near the Ardmore, Oklahoma area at the time of the census 1900. One thought I had was if anyone knows the about the marriage records in Ardmore, Oklahoma or could possibly do a look up for me there? I don't know what detail may be included in there old marriage records, it may just be the names and dates. If they filled out some sort of application it may contain other info like his parents name which would be a great find. If anyone can help please contact me. My home email address is : tlwilliamsx@cox.net Terry Williams (Harry)

    2. Doris E. Williams-Keefer
    3. I'll be next Adrian..... (sorry I always write "books" my friends say) Name: Doris E. Williams-Keefer Age: 44 Born in California but I have lived in several states and currently reside in Alabama Work: I have run a business on Ebay for several years now in which I sell HP Photo paper and Magnetic Bracelets, which allows me to have a flexible schedule and go with my husband to his medical appointments. Status: Married...hubby Gary, two grown kids that I raised, only one of which I gave birth to, (which leads me to ask some questions. Since my son was given MY Maiden name at birth which DNA should he actually do, His real father's last name or the name which is legally his (Williams) haha should be interesting I live with: My husband, Gary; my brother, Donald, and my nephews Rob & Nathan and my Moluccan Cockatoo, Snuggles in Alabama. I have three grandchildren (Alyssia lives in Florida born in 2001), Aslan lives in California, born 2002 (and was just here for a week visit!!!) and Caleb lives in Rhode Island and will be 2 years old on the 11th of February. What got me interested in Genealogy: The birth of my son mostly. I made a common mistake at the beginning. I went to my oldest living relative and slacked off on the others (such as my father and younger "older" generation) my grandparents-now 27 years later are still living but my father died in 1987 -just 7 years after I started my research in a serious way. The only "Mistake" in this part of it -was "slacking" off my other living relatives at the time and waiting too long to go back to them and ask the questions i needed to ask them till it was too late with my father. I work still on my grandparents (Maternal) side as well as my father's side of the family. The earliest know ancestors on his side being William Williams (born 1800 in Georgia) and his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Carrol Williams (Born about 1803 in Georgia). I have not tried yet to go back further on my Williams side. Our Taber side has been traced back to the Mayflower families that married into the Taber family. DNA & Genealogy Successes: I moved back to Alabama in 2000 and full time back in 2002 and met many of my father's relatives I had either never met in my life or had not seen since we lived here between 1972-1977. I found a 100 year old bible still in our family, possessed by a sharing relative and FIVE other family bibles to scan and dig over happily and a wealth of information locally on my father's side of the family, including pictures several generations back. I wrote and home published a compilation of data /book form for the Sherrod Williams family for my Friend, Vaughn Williams and many of his cousins and relatives (we are very very distantly related only) and have met one of my best friends (Vaughn) through Williams genealogy. I founded and administrate several myfamily dot com sites including the "Williams Database project" which I initialliy started as a database on my computer, until it grew so large by information sent to me in less than a month that I started the site instead, back when the sites were free. I also founded and administrate the Taber Research site (My maternal grandmother's family), The Birchfield site (related through my grandmother's first marriage), and the William Williams and Elizabeth "Betsy" Carrol website. When the sites were free i had several others as well such as the Scoggins website and the Lider website (My mother's father's family) My Maternal grandmother and grandfather (Taber & Lider) are still living in California. When Vaughn and I first "Met" online I started the Descendants of Sherrod WILLIAMS site for him and I to share files and now it has a LOT of members, but the Williams Database site is still the biggest with over 400 members, about 200 members are active regularly I would guess. I volunteered with Madison County, Al typing their marriage records and such until I was no longer able to do so, they have done a super great job!!! My Dna successes are still to vague for me to understand. I just upgraded my test though. (Done for me by a sibling) I have matched a ton of other surnames as well as some WILLIAMS but I'm not sure how we connect yet at all. Thing I'd Like to see the most in this Project: Adrian's map Idea is Awesome, I'm a VERY Visual person this would be awesome! More members!!!! Hobbies and such: Genealogy (of course!) Learning (I go through phases when I get interested in something I have to read/study/learn as much as I can till I wear myself out or find something else that leads me in another direction) Taking care of my Ebay business (Ebay ID: Satinlady) and my husband these days which has been on chemotherapy for over a year now for his Hepatitis C disease. The drugs are taking their toll on his body but it's curing the Hep C.I don't have as much time lately for genealogy as I used to (I did it almost full time for four years) but hope to be able to return to it soon in the future when my husband is not as sick. Writing (Poems/Stories/genealogies/anything!) Researching the status of Parrots in the home and how fast our rescues are filling up with unwanted ones. Researching Elephants in captivity. Bible/Da Vinci Code/and other current studies. myspace dot com sites myfamily dot com sites Next!! 2. Name - La Nere Cleveland Williams (working on my husband's family). His name - Bobby Eugene Williams from Waco, McLennan, Texas. I became a widow this past September. We had been married 50 years. We have 1 son - Vincent Williams who is a chiropractor in Atlanta Georgia and he is married. I have been doing genealogy over 30 years and this "Williams" line is the hardest one I have ever encountered with the exception of another of my husband's lines - "Luther". We are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, so genealogy is very important to us as families. I live in Austin Texas and have lived here about 35 years - a beautiful place to live. My husband and I were raised in Waco Texas, met there after his service in Korea and were married there. Doing genealogy is very important to me and especially after the death of my husband. We have matched with 2 other people but have not made any connection on that as yet. We are working on it. I do know that the earliest that we know of came from North Carolina to Illinois and Indiana and then to Arkansas and then to Texas. One thing that drives me crazy is that so many families felt it necessary to name a son "William Williams"! I hope our labors will be more fruitful this year. I would hope to see the 1850 census on our site. La Nere

    1. Re: [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - Match with another surname
    2. David Jones
    3. It is theoretically possible to match with other families just because mutations are random. This is probably very rare unless you were a WAMH. If you were a WAMH, then you could match with literally a thousand others on 12 markers, and hundreds on 25 markers. This matching generally disappears with 37 or more markers. But, you would probably not be closely related to any WAMH unless you matched on 37 or 67 markers. If you have a match at 37 or more markers with a family with a different name, it may indicate a stepchild, orphan, or child out of wedlock in the past. -----Original Message----- From: williams-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:williams-dna-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of wwwuser@yourhostingaccount.com Sent: Sunday, February 04, 2007 10:23 AM To: williams-dna@rootsweb.com Subject: [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - Match with another surname The following new message has been added to the Group 32 board under the new topic of Match with another surname... -------------------------------- At Adrian's suggestion I increased my test results from 37 to 67 markers. At about the same time I received an email from a Bailey surname project member saving we were a 37/37 match. His was also increased to 67 and now we have a 67/67 match. I do not know the probability of a coincidental match of different surnames at that level but I assume it is small. His line only goes back to 1830 with confidence and the known families are never geographically close to that point in time. I am uncertain if he should be added to the group or if a posting like this is enough to raise the potential issue. 3. Great idea, Bob...this list has been fairly quiet for some time now.... I'll get it started! Name: Adrian Williams Generation: Generation 'X' or whatever comes after Baby Boomers.... Status: Married...wife Rebecca, three kids, Jordan (6), LeeElla (3) and Emily (11mos), dog (DeeDee), 3 cats (Justin, Puss, Boots), two rats (Lewis and Clark) and the occasional steer (when the freezer gets thin). What got me interested in Genealogy: A combination of my search for my biological mother (found after almost 20 years of separation) and my inheritance of my first family heirloom...my Great-Grandfather's police badge...Chapel Hill, NC badge #1. DNA Successes: Actually two...first, seeing this project become such a success and a model for others. I never realized when I started it that we'd be this large and influential in such a short amount of time. Second, the testing has allowed me to find new cousins that I never knew I had...and helped makes some connections that were previously thought impossible. Thing I'd Like to see the most in this Project: In tandem with the overall Williams study, I love to start putting together a map of the various family lineages. Specifically, my earliest known ancestor is thought to have immigrated in 1638 into Surry Co. VA. I have tracked the family migrations from there thru NC, GA and MS and have simply mapped this migration path. I'd love to be able to do the same for everyone on one massive US Map and be able to tie DNA tests to specific families and migrations. Next!! First, she will be contacting all of those folks who haven't yet submitted a pedigree to the website, in any format, to encourage and assist them in doing so. Second, she will be administering the TNG module and encouraging folks to get their GEDCOM uploaded to the module. 1. Re: [WILLIAMS-DNA] From The Forums! - Match with another surname
    2. Joyce Leo
    3. A match is a match! No matter the surname. My thoughts are that a DNA data bank is designed to identify matches, groups and subgroups, etc. And as we all know, many (or most) surnames, especially those such as Williams, given its Welch background, or any of the ones ending in --son, --sen, etc. were more or less "given on the spot", not to mention the altered, shortened or new surnames given new arrivals in ports around the world. In addition to adoption from one given name to another one and "illegitimate" births, orphaned babies brought up under another surname, "lost babies" found during wars, etc., there are all sorts of other reasons as to why identical DNA matches could come from totally different surnames on different continents with no known historical or geological connections. My suggestion would be to include all matches and then to try to sort out the names or just be comfortable knowing that surnames are "cultural tags" and DNA matches are genetic tags and just wonder at the results. It's all such a humanizing endeavor anyway. We're all related, no matter the country, culture, ideology, race, or creed. Our DNA data banks at the National Geographic level point in that direction already. Other thoughts? At about the same time I received an email from a Bailey surname project member saving we were a 37/37 match. His was also increased to 67 and now we have a 67/67 match. I do not know the probability of a coincidental match of different surnames at that level but I assume it is small. His line only goes back to 1830 with confidence and the known families are never geographically close to that point in time. I am uncertain if he should be added to the group or if a posting like this is enough to raise the potential issue. Any thoughts? ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to WILLIAMS-DNA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
