Y'all, Yep, it's that time again...more updates to our project! We continue to grow at an amazing pace...we are now up to 326 participants and still holding at 51 matched groups. I have just uploaded the following results!! Group 5 - The panel 2 numbers are in for Wayland. Group 18 - The haplogroups for the 3 Williams fellas are now updated to show the latest information...they are now indicated as R1b1c. Group 20 - The panel 3 numbers are in for Daniel, confirming his match with Lawrence and Frank. Group 26 - Has a new member! Brian's full 37-marker results set came in showing him a very strong match to the group. Group 29 - I don't know what happened with this group but it saw an explosion of new members this time around...3 of them!! Robert C., Robert L., and Ernest. There is a bit of trickery involved here, though. It has become quite difficult to figure out the true relationships among these mismatches. The results are very close but run a broader range than I usually group out. I'd really like to see both 25-marker upgrades done and I'd really like to see if there is any confirmed documented link between any of these guys. Also, the panel 3 numbers are in for James. Group 31 - The panel 3 numbers are in for Richard. Group 51 - Has a new member! Gareth transferred his NGS numbers over and he is an exact match with Harvey, who has a fair match with the rest of the group. Again, upgrades are strongly recommended here. No Match - There are a number of updates to the no-match group. First, Guy has a large number of near-matches with a large number of participants. I have placed him here for the time being as I won't be able to make a conclusive decision until he upgrades to the 25-marker test. Upgrade results are in for David, Lee and Stanley. And, welcome new members James, Michael and Clovis. A bit of housekeeping news....first, there are a growing number of dead email addresses in the database for participants. If you have changed your email address, please be sure to update it in the FTDNA database as well as shooting me a message so I can update my notes. Currently, there are 18 dead email addys that need updating! I will post a list in another mailing with those kits that I need new information for. Also, more folks are using the pedigree module but we still have a long way to go to get everyone's information updated. Since the testing is essentially worthless without genealogies, please consider uploading your information to the module. Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, OK, we think we have nailed down what was causing all of the problems with the TNG pedigree module, and it appears to be working correctly again. I'd like to ask y'all to go visit it and see if you can break it again...this will help ensure that I really have it fixed this time!! Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, Of course I couldn't get lucky enough to have the migration go smoothly! There are currently two problems that we are encountering with the TNG pedigree module, both of which are complex and being very difficult to figure out. They are: 1.) First, there is something strange going on with the login credentials/ session cookies....when you login and chose to stay logged in, then reboot your pc, then revisit the index, it comes up as a blank page...I have to actually navigate to the login.php page, relogin and then it is fine. If you run into this, there is a workaround...use the direct login page to relogin: http://williams.genealogy.fm/TNG_DNA/index.php 2.) Either logged in or not, if you click on Browse the Pedigrees, then click on any of the person counts, the search results comes back with " Cannot open /www/g/genealogyfm/williams/htdocs/TNG_DNA/genlog.txt". The file does indeed exist and has the correct permissions so i am not sure what is causing this one either. I have contacted the fella that wrote the software and asked for his assistance with these problems. Hopefully he will be able to shed some light on the issue and I can get them quickly rectified. I appreciate everyones patience as I work thru this. Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, I have been chewing on an idea for some time now and thought I would present to this forum to see if the interest and volunteerism is there. As most of you already know, one of the main portions of my website is the Source Doucmentation Repository, which houses tens of thousands of Williams records. A little while back I transcribed the entire 1790 US Census for all Williams families and put those transcriptions on the site. Then, I began working on the 1800 census with a couple of short time helpers. However, life interrupted my work and my goal of getting every major US census transcribed for Williams families got shelved. I am constantly seeing a large number of census look-up requests from folks and want to see if I can get this project back off the shelf. I am looking for a couple of things: 1.) Do y'all think this is a good idea? 2.) Are you willing to help? If the interest is there, I will be more than happy to manage the effort. I already have the templates ready for the 1800 thru 1840 Census and have been working on the 1850. If we all pitch in an help, it should take more than a couple of years to get everything thru 1930 transcribed and available for the entire world. Then, we can start working on the smaller state census records!! If you are interested in helping out, please email me directly. Kind regards, Adrian
Y'all, OK, I think I have the problem ironed out...whew...it looks like a portion of the code didn't get migrated correctly, but I think I have it now. You may need to login, logout, refresh the browser and then login again to get your browser cleaned of the old stuff. If anyone notices anything wrong with the module, please let me know ASAP! Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, During the migration of the website, something was hosed up and now the TNG module is not working. I am aware of the problem and am trying to figure out what is broken. Thanks in advance for your patience. Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, Surprise, surprise! I am getting the latest results posted again!! This makes twice in less than a month! Someone should really write this down on a calendar somewhere!! I have uploaded the latest results pages to the website and they are now available to y'all. In this update, you will find the following: Group 6 - I have corrected the numbers for Charles.... Group 9 - Has a new member! Edgar's 12 marker results came back matching...I would strongly suggest that the 12 marker folks in this group upgrade to the 25 marker series to ensure this is a clean match. Group 50 - The 25-marker numbers are in for Hugh Group 51 - Has a new member! Walter's 12 marker results are in and show him as a match. No Match - there are 5 new members of this group this time around...David (66542), Lee (66415), Collin (N33377), Stanley (66866) and Marc (N33550). We also have the panel 4 numbers in for Donald (28436), Thomas (42237), Juan (6458) and Harold (25619). I will get those results posted on the Acrobat page soon. I have received a ton of feedback from folks, giving me permission to use their kits in my presentation at the conference in November. Thank you!! I think to make this a bit easier, I am going to try the opposite tactic....if anyone DOES NOT want me to use their kit, please let me know. Also, this mailing list will be undergoing an upgrade by Rootsweb...I am still researching to see what kind of chaos this will create. I would also like to encourage everyone who hasn't already done so, to upload your information to the TNG module on the website. This is a perfect method of sharing your information with others who may be researching the same lines. And, I think I have found a way to make group pedigrees with the module, so if y'all are a group with a known ancestor and multiple lines of descent, let me know...I think we can reflect that on the site. Finally, the conference is coming up fast...as well as our get together!! Hughes Williams is coordinating the get together and hasn't had much response to the effort...let's not miss this opportunity to get together and spend some time outside of our computers! Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Y'all, Well, the migration has been completed and a few minor aggrivations have sprouted up. In a nutshell, any information that has been added to the site in the last week has been lost...this includes new signups to both these forums (as well as any new postings) and any new signups and modifications/additions to the TNG pedigree module. I am very sorry for the loss of this data...but am afraid there isn't much I can do about it. That said, this should be the last time for a very long while that we have to go thru this mess. If anyone notices ANYTHING not working correctly on any portion of the website, please let me know ASAP so I can get it resolved. Kind regards, Adrian Adrian Williams Williams DNA Project Administrator http://williams.genealogy.fm/ stickamw@earthlink.net
Well, relatively central. :-) And my bad. Emily contacted me about the get-together, and we brainstormed what seemed the best possible solution given the conference schedule and Houston logistics. This was about two weeks ago...and I never posted the details. The Cheesecake Factory can accommodate parties up to 60 with enough advance notice. I don't think we'll hit that mark, so will call October 25 the RSVP deadline. Let me know by then if you'll be attending, and I'll handle the reservations. The restaurant is open continuously on Friday from 11:00 to 11:00, so we'll have plenty of time to chat if we choose to stay. The conference shuttle back to the Sheraton Airport will stop running about 10:00, but if you're a Houstonian you know there are a lot of "meeting" options that continue later within a short walk from the restaurant...and some folks coming into town for the conference will likely get an earlier start at the Galleria for a little shopping. I'd like to keep the RSVPs and any questions or discussion over at the Williams Project Forums: http://forums.genealogy.fm/forums/index.php?topic=130.0 I'll be you concierge for this event <grin>, so be sure to post any comments at all about the meeting. --Hughes -----Original Message----- From: Adrian Williams [mailto:stickamw@earthlink.net] Sent: Friday, August 11, 2006 11:32 AM To: WILLIAMS-DNA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Williams-DNA] Get Together in Houston - It's a Date! - Details! Y'all, The company that I use to host the website is in the process of upgrading servers and as a result, the website is being migrated to a new machine. Part of this involves some configuration changes and while this is happening, the site may become unavailable for a short period (24-48 hours). This will affect all aspects of the site, including the Results pages, the Forums and the TNG module. Please bear with me as I work with our host to get this move done...thanks in advance for your patience! Adrian
Y'all, OK, I think I figured out the best way to get the full 67-marker results published. I have put them in the printer friendly Acrobat file on the results page. I was able to get them to fit on landscape width. Now granted, the information is going to be smaller print when printed, but there isn't much I can do about that one! However, with the Acrobat viewer, you can easily change magnifications. And, somehow, I was able to get the size of the file greatly reduced....still scratching my head on that one... If anyone has any problems with this, please let me know! Hopefully this solves the challenge of how to get the 67-marker results publicized. As always, Adrian
If you are still looking for volunteer "kits" to use, please feel free to use Tom's, kits no. 12173. And Adrian, we don't say it nearly often enough, but thanks so much for all you do for the Williams genealogy commuity through your outstanding DNA project> THANKS! Nancy

Adrian, You may use the yDNA results from kit # 32985. Haplogroup R1a. And 37 markers. Kay C. I need some easy help. One of the presentations I will be giving at the conference is designed to teach other administrators how to use the tools that FTDNA provides us. My plan is to have a dummy project setup and literally walk folks thru this stuff. FTDNA can setup the dummy project with ease, but because of the way the system is setup, they cannot put in dummy kits. I will have to use real data....so I need between 25-40 folks to give me the ok to use your kits in my dummy project. Nothing will be done with your data...and the only thing you will notice is the your FTDNA member page will likely show you belonging to 2 groups...the Williams group and the dummy. As always, Adrian
