Brenda, I have yet to find a program that does everything I want it to do, so I use bits and pieces from several different programs. Here's how I organized my first draft: 1. I set up four sections, corresponding to the paternal surnames of my four grandparents, ie. paternal surname of each grandparent. 2. I printed a pedigree chart using my parents as base of the tree, one for their paternal side and one for their maternal side. You could also use yourself or your children. 3. I printed a descendant tree and family group sheet for each of the four paternal surnames and placed this after the pedigree chart for that surname. 4. I printed the tree & group sheets of the spouse's family next (maternal lines). 5. I printed descendant trees & family group sheets for each of the surnames of the people who married into my four base surnames.. I then placed the pages for each surname in alphabetical order and put them after the paternal and maternal surnames for that section.. Each section looks like this: title page with surname pedigree chart for parent/self/child family group sheets for ancestor with surname family group sheets for everyone with that surname, from oldest to youngest descendant tree for maternal side family group sheets for maternal side rest of surnames alphabetically: descendant tree followed by family group sheets for each surname. I put the wives' family group sheets with their maiden surname unless I had no ancestors for them. Then I just printed the spouse's family group sheet to include all of the data for his wife The descendant trees & group sheets are printed double-sided. The photos are one-sided so the color doesn't bleed through or otherwise interfere if the photos were printed double-sided. This if my first draft, and I may change it later, but so far it has worked well. I had thougnt about putting the family group sheets behind the relevant page of the pedigree chart, but then you can't look someone up unless you know where they are on the chart. Keeping them in alphabetical order after the family group sheets of the grandparents' surnames makes it much easier to find a specific individual quickly. So, for example, here's how the section is set up for my Stebbins surname: Stebbins title page (1 page) [grandmother's paternal surname] Pedigree chart using my mother as the base (68 pages) Descendants of Rowland Stebbins (4 pages) [immigrant ancestor] Family group sheet for each descendant of Rowland, by generation, beginning with Rowland 11 generations, 42 pages--this includes photos placed with the family group sheet of the individual for whom the photo is relevant). I included Rowland's wife on his group sheet because, for now, I'm not going any further back than the original immigrant. Descendant tree of Dr. William Reed Lilly [grandmother's maternal side] Family group sheet for each descendant of William, beginning with first generation Desscendant tree & family tree for Mary Ellen Robbins, wife of William Descendant tree and family group sheet of the 76 other surnames who married into the Stebbins and Lilly families (too many pages to count!) I also used MSWorks to write an introduction to the entire genealogy. I included stories about how I got started, some of my research adventures, mentioned notable kin with interesting stories, and anyhting else I wanted to include in the narrative. I hope this makes sense. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. If anyone has comments/recommendations I'd welcome them. Anita Hoyer
