Hello again, I apologize that I forgot to put in my email below the URL in for the website that has the signers of the 1787 Petition...Here it is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper/wau/petitioners.html Subj: Signers 1787 TN State of Franklin Petition Date: 10/18/2002 12:46:16 PM Eastern Standard Time From: <A HREF="mailto:jleehunt1">jleehunt1</A> To: <A HREF="mailto:williams-l@rootsweb.com">williams-l@rootsweb.com</A> Hello All, I am wondering if any of you have any idea who the two Williams, Joseph and Thomas, are (and where they lived) that signed the petition regarding the "State of Franklin" in 1787. <Insert: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~snipper/wau/petitioners.html> I have a James Williams, b. 1770-1780 in TN and dies 1842 in Cole (now Moniteau Co MO) His birth place is according to all FIVE of his children living in 1880 who I could find on the census..at least four are decased..and they are in..Four states...ALL agree).... Above James Williams names his eldest of 11 son (and my ancestor) Thomas L. Williams, the "L" being an initial he uses religious through his whole life (from Cocke Co Tn to Moniteau Co Missouri to Kaufman Co TX to Benton Co AR to Dade Co MO). Although his wife Franky MURRELL is clearly an old line VA family (Chandler, Lax,Murrell), I believe her husband's Williams' ancestry is probably a "down the wagon road" fellow..whose family may yes (Everlyn..smile) have stopped in NC first. I say this after studying the first Survey Book for Cocke Co and all the associated families and knowing when the Murrells and their Lax/Hicks/Lewis siblings/in-laws left Halifax Co VA area. Thanks for thoughts on the 1787 Petition. Best Regards, Janet (Baugh) Hunter
