I recently quoted an excerpt of a document executed by Rev. John Williams of Lunenburg Co. and mentioning his brother Matthew J[ouett] Williams of Elbert Co., GA in connection with some land in Washington Co., KY. One of the witnesses was one Ro. H. Williams. My correspondent wrote: <Don't know about the land in Washington Co., KY, but this may be a clue to the Robert H. Williams. I have in my database a John Williams, who married Elizabeth Wooding on 13 Nov. 1815 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. Elizabeth's parents were Thomas Hill Wooding and Susanna Christopher. Thomas Hill Wooding's (d. 1842 Pittsylvania Co., VA) parents were Robert Wooding and Elizabeth Hill. Maybe the name Robert H. Wooding is Robert Hill Wooding, named after John Williams' in-law. Just a thought, A brief biography I have located of Robert Williams of Colonial Pittsylvania Co., allegedly born in 1744, seems to rule out a connection to the above named John Williams as linked to this family. The bio may help others. Sorting out Williamses and making their timelines is a full time job. From Zella Armstrong, NOTABLE SOUTHERN FAMILIES, V. II, P. 371. Large parts are probably inaccurate. "Robert Williams, the eldest son of Nathaniel Williams, moved from Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Robert Williams was Adjutant General of the State of North Carolina and collected the only copy of the Acts of the Assembly. [He married Sarah Lanier, a widow of his cousin Joseph Williams of Granville Co., NC.] They had seven children and probably one more. The seven were: (1) Nathaniel Williams (who was Judge of the Superior Court of Tennessee) (2) Polly Williams (who married Matthew Cay, member of Congress 1797-1813); (3) Lucy Williams (who married Robert Call); (4) Patsy Williams (who married James C[?] member of Congress; Mary G. Kerr, who married her cousin, Nicholas Lanier Williams, and Martha Kerr, who married Dr. Frank Martin; and (second) Frances Williams (who married Thomas D. Connally of Tennessee. They had three children, namely, Rev. John Kerr Connally ....." Dear Williams Listers, If any of you are descended from these children, may I hear from you. E.W.Wallace
