The Guy Mannering was launched in March 1849 at New York and this was her first east-west voyage. The captain was William Edwards. The listing below is from NARA Film Number M237 80-828, National Archives, Washington DC. It has been rearranged in alphabetical order, but with family groupings retained. http://members.tripod.com/~Data_Mate/irish/Guymann.txt Most of the passengers were Irish, but 58 (indicated by #) were lead miners and their families from the Allendale area of Northumberland, England, who had been been blacklisted following an industrial dispute. The intended destination of these lead- miners was the lead-mining areas of south-western Wisconsin and north-western Illinois. Samuel Vickers and family are known to have settled in New Diggings, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. George Philipson also settled briefly in the same town, but by early 1853 he was in California and by the end of the same year he had moved on to Victoria, Australia.
