I have info on Cherokee Williams' brothers: His brother, Brooks Williams was b. in 1791 and was killed and scalped by Indians on the East bank of the Neches River of Ft. Houston near Alto, Cherokee Co., Texas on 7 Mar 1836. His other brother, Leonard Houston Williams, was living near Nacogdoches in 1822 (on the Angelina River). Received Rusk Co. Land grant on 3-28-1829. Participated in storming of San Antonio de Bexar Nov. 1835. 1836, served with the Texas Rangers. 1839, at the Battle of Neches. 1840, appointed Indian agent by Sam Houston. 1843, negotiated treaty of Bird's Foot. April 1844, served as Commissioner at the Comanche Council at Tehuacana Creek. 1844, a resident of Houston Co. 1845, a resident below the Waco Village (probably Hill Co., as an Indian agent). 1846, a resident of Navarro Co. He was said to be a personal friend of Sam Houston; perhaps this is where he got his middle name. Some reports say that he was killed by Comanche Indians. Another story says that he eventually died of old scalp wounds from Indians. Sam Houston tried to get him to write his memoirs before he died. Buried in the Dr.Pitts Cemetery, Limestone Co., Texas. I found this infomation from LEE family researchers. ---Lorraine
