Surnames: WILLIAMS, CURRY, LAUNDER, OREN, STARBUCK, COOKSON, KRAMER, CRAMER, SLIFE, MOREHART earliest ancestor - Sanford Williams b: abt 1810 in VA or MD - married Sophia Curry (b: 10/27/1811in VA, d: 4/7/1889 in OH?) in Warren Co. VA 8/7/1837. This is the earliest record I can find for either Sanford or Sophia. Sanford also appears on the Warren Co. VA tax rolls in 1837, but this is also, I believe, the first year of existence for Warren Co. VA. I didn't find him in the earler tax records for the surrounding area, so I'm not sure where he came from. Various census records give his place of birth as Virginia or Maryland. Also, Sanford's 2 oldest children were born prior to his marriage to Sophia. Who is the mother of these children? I have found no earlier marriage record for Sanford. I have the children listed below, and after that I give a migration history. Any help at all finding Sanford's parents or siblings is appreciated. OH on 3/28/1861, d: unk. Sometime after the 1850 census, James apparently left to live with the Curry family in Clinton Co. OH according to the 1860 census. Elizabeth was living with the Starbuck family then. James's uncle (Sophia's brother), Hezekiah Curry married Jane Starbuck in 1860 in Clinton Co. OH Idress E. b: 4/18/1840 in VA, married Milo A. Cookson in Hancock Co. OH on 7/12/1857, d: 3/24/1918 in Wood Co. OH, Minerva A. b: 3/22/1841 in VA, married Simon Kramer/Cramer 5/22/1859 in Hancock Co. OH, d: 4/20/1919 in Allen Co. OH, Charles b: 2/1843 in VA - apparently never married. Died after 1910. Last seen in the 1910 Auglaize Co. Census, St. Marys Twp. Sarah A. b: abt 1845 in VA, married Thomas Slife in 1878 in Hancock Co. OH, d: unk, Hezekiah b: abt 1847 in VA. The only reference for him is the 1850 Morgan Co. census in which he was 3. He never appears with the family again and most likely died as a child. John Russell b: 8/8/1849 in OH(probably Morgan Co.), married Amanda Launder in Wyandot Co. OH on 5/4/1882, d: 4/27/1929 in Toledo, Lucas Co. OH, Amanda b: 6/30/1856 in Hancock Co. OH, d: 2/27/1892 in St. Marys Twp, Auglaize Co. OH, was the daughter of Benjamin Launder b: 1818 in England, and Margaret Waltermyer b: 7/25/1823 in Muskingum Co. OH. John and Amanda were my g-g-grandparents. Laura J. b: abt. 1851 married "unk", but according to the 1880 Clinton Co. OH census, she was widowed (it listed her name as "Williams" - and she was living with her parents, Sanford and Sophia. She also apparently had twins Arthur and Beatrice, who were 7 in 1880) d: unk, Eliza Jane b: 11/1/1854, married William Morehart abt 1876, probably in Hancock Co. OH, d: 2/10/1925 in Eastland Co. TX, Mary E. b: abt 1856 marriage: unk , d: unk The Sanford Williams family first appeared in the Warren Co. VA census for 1840, (Living next door to Eleanor Curry - Sophia's mother?) and the tax rolls through 1848. They left VA for OH around then, and they appeared in the Morgan Co. OH census for Deerfield Twp. in 1850 (living next door to William Curry) From there, they apparently migrated to Hancock Co. OH, living there through 1870. Sanford and Sophia are found in the 1880 census in Clinton Co. OH, Union Twp. They are living with their daughter Laura, who was widowed, and son John. I believe they went to Clinton to help her with the twins after her husband died. Where they went after that is a mystery. John married back in Wyandot Co.(adjacent to Hancock Co.) in 1882. I have been unsuccessful finding death records for Sanford or Sophia, although a prayer card for Sophia gives her date of death, but no location. The children of Sanford remained mainly in the Hancock Co. OH area, and from there, Auglaize Co. OH,! Wood Co. OH, and Lucas Co. OH. Several descendants also moved to Michigan and Texas.
