According to notes (unverified by me), Mary Elizabeth D. Williams (first HF Shelton wife) died in 1840 after having one child, Martha Elizabeth, in 1939. The dates are off in the info I have on the next two marriages and spouses' ages - they do not make sense, and am not sure which ones are accurate, if any. When Mary and Henry's baby Martha was a toddler, Henry remarried - a woman who was dying of TB, and she wanted nothing to do with Mary's daughter, and reportedly abused her, so the child was sent to live with Mary's parents. After that woman's death, he married Martha, the sister of his first wife, and they had Laura and Clara. *IF* the dates I have been sent in this data are correct, this is probably the wrong family- but I suspect the dates are NOT correct, given that they conflict even in this data, so I will be doing some checking asap. If James *was* Mary and Martha's father, his two younger children's being named for Mary would be understandable. I gotta check some dates. HF Shelton and Martha's first child was born (according to one source) in 1854. I wonder if this Martha on the 1850 is the daughter of Mary - the age is right - and Mary's sister Martha is probably already married to Henry - I gotta check some censuses and dates.
