Linda, your name sounds familiar to me, I think we have corresponded before? I know of the Samuel Williams you write about. I believe he was probably the brother of my Shadrack Williams who was also born in St. Marys County but 2 years earlier than Samuel. Shadrack also lived in Shenandoah Co. (til 1788) and in Russell Co. at the same time as Samuel. You say that Samuel married Elizabeth Crump. I thought that Elizabeth "Betsy" Crump married Samuel's son Andrew Williams, Betsey b.1819 according to the 1850 U.S. census of Russell Co. This information came from the book "Heritage of Russell Co., Virginia Vol 2", pg 513-514, available on microfiche from the LDS. This book says she was "from Montgomery Co., Md." In 1996 I wrote to the person who submitted this portion of the book but received no reply. Have you seen the possible wife for Samuel as being Elizabeth EATON? I have that handwritten in my notes but unfortunately did not record where I heard it. I presume you have not found anything on Samuel's parents.
