    1. [WILLIAMS] The Jury is still out on New worldwide Project for Genealogy

    3. Thanks for the good responses. For the benefit of all, I have posted each one of them here. I'll let you decide for yourself. As for me I think the jury is still out! I am going to wait to get additional reports from Britt who has already joined (see ans. #6). Again thanks for getting back to me. Ans. #1 I had not seen this before. I would be interested if you get any comments. Is there a cost involved? If so, I didn't find that stated up front. Judy Busch Ans. #2 I took a closer look at the site and yes they do charge. I never saw how much, but it mentioned all the type of payment excepted. They mostly seem to be based in Spain and France. Keith D Bailey Ans. #3 I have never heard of it, but it might be something new. The only free sites for Genealogy that I know of are Later Day Saints site and www.GenExchange.org Keith D Dailey Ans. #4 Buzz, I followed the link you gave in your post and this is what they say themselves. Gedlink has a page entitled "Frequently Asked Questions." It does not say, however, how much the "small fee" is. Mary How much does Gedlink cost? Is it free? GedLink needs your help to keep the system up-to-date and to ensure its continual growth. This is why we propose that you become a member of the GedLink Network by contributing a small fee. It is possible to continue to use GedLink for FREE, although being a member has numerous advantages such as: The ability to do 200 searches per day, instead of your usual 8. The ability to perform 30 requests per day, instead of 2. More information on other genealogists. etc. Mary & Don Ans. #5 Howard I read what info I could without downloading the program .They didn't mention ant charges, but did list different types of money they would accept. I guess you have to do the download before you get all the info. you need. I will let you be the guinea pig Ans. #6 When I signed up, this was what I saw. "You are now a registered user, and as such you can access the Gedlink network! Use your login and password to connect to the network from the GedLink software. You'll then be able to share the content of your genealogical files with other GedLink users. " Now the money comes in with the next part... "You can now become member of the GedLink World History Club. A low membership fee of US$ 29 / year allows us to develop, maintain and constantly upgrade the system and gives you access to the full version, allowing you to request family trees." So from what I can tell, you can access it, but not do much with it without paying the 30 bucks a year, which isn't that much really. I'll probably decide on it later based on what I see as far as getting good info out of it. Britt Ans. #7 My risk assessment on a 1 to 10 scale would be at least and 8. Many of these are links to other sites that you can access for free and they will charge you to get that what you can get for free...I just delete them as they come in.
