You say "simpler time" now? To me the computer technology (sp?) is not simple. I am always having to learn something new; at my almost 68 years that is not a simple thing to do. Today may be more comfortable, temperature-wise; but I find the speed of things more stressful. Driving is more stressful because there is much more traffic.
