I recently submitted my mother's brother's DNA (he's a Williams, obviously) to the Williams-DNA project (mostly populated by Southern lines), and came up with a close but not exact match with another Northeastern Williams line: you guessed it, this other line is descended from Matthew WILLIAMS and Susannah COLE. My grandfather Williams's line came from New York (and, ironically given the regional "rivalry" on this list lately, moved to Florida and Georgia and other points south after the Civil War). The earliest definite ancestor I have in this line is Adinijah Williams who was born in Tioga County, New York ca. 1805. His father MAY have been Thomas Williams who MAY have been born in Pennsylvania or New York or... If you've ever heard of Adinijah WILLIAMS, I'd love to hear about it.
