I have a big problem now with my memory & forget things so much easier & yet was getting afraid to ask anything!!! Those who don't want to be helpful can just ignore those questions, but it's wonderful that others still "have time" to answer......thank you.... Do you have a WILLIAMS question you haven't asked recently? May be I will be able to pay closer attention this time. I, myself, have names and some dates on such a large WILLIAMS 'tribe', that 'no way' can I remember all the names and spouses' names, also. [I used the term 'tribe' even though, there is no hint of Native American.] I've never figured out a good, fast way to check my 'database' for them either. Just this morning I ran a screen preview of the descendants of Jonas WILLIAMS and Elizabeth THOMPSON married 1798 Mercer Co., KY., and it was 24 pages long. Of course, some (maybe half) were daughters; so they would no longer go by WILLIAMS surname. May I check for yours, especially if you have a WILLIAMS and a non-WILLIAMS surname couple? Oh yes, I do have a few WILLIAMS and WILLIAMS couples, but they don't seem to have many surviving children. P.S. I am having a 'medical procedure' today, so please don't expect an immediate response. Thank you. Do you have an side name of Claunch/Clonch/Clontz/Cloncs among your Williams ancestors in Mercer, KY? I am descended from HIeronymus Glantz/Claunch/Clontz. Some of his descendants living/lived in Mercer County, KY? I am descended from Joseph Williams first found in Duplin Co. (that part that became Sampson Co) NC in the 1760's and moved to Anson County, NC around 1800. Some of his children and grandchildren have been found in TN and AR. But most stayed in Anson Co., NC with a number of his descendants still living in Monroe, NC and Union Co. that part that was once Anson Co. before 1842. If you have any Claunch, etc. information I would really appreciate comparing research. Dorothy C. I am trying to find my husbands ggg-grandfather. I have some unverified information that he may have been Lemuel Williams b.1806, Onslow Co. m Norma Ann Cox. His son Dr. Daniel Allen Williams b. 18 Nov 1839, Duplin Co. I show Lemuel's father as John Williams m. Sarah or Sallie Sanders. To: <williams@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <002701c7b1d4$1264af80$9500a8c0@bitsy> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Carol, my Joseph Williams did have a son Lemuel b 1787 in Sampson Co but he moved to Anson Co. and died in Anson Co at close to 100 years old. We do not know exactly who Joseph's father/parents were but some descendants declared they were Joseph Williams and Martha Mewborn. Not knowing Joseph's original family we don't know if he had siblings nor who they might have been but here is the name Lemuel and we had no idea where that name came from. So there might have been a connection. Our Joseph Williams was b ca 1748 but I don't know where. He became a Primitive Baptist elder (preacher) helping to establish a number of churches in Anson and surrounding counties. He died there July 6, 1825 and Martha Perritt, his wife died July 8, 1825 less than 48 hours after Joseph. Their obit notice states Joseph was 77 years old and Martha about 2 years younger. I know they were married very young. I have a copy of his Rev. War record - the sheet stating the unit he served in and a muster sheet but it is marked on there that no other information is available. I have seen where he enlisted in Halifax Co. but I haven't found anything to prove that. There were so many Joseph Williams men in that northeastern area of NC, almost as many as those named William Williams. It is difficult to correctly place him in any one Williams lineage. I know our Joseph was not of the Samuel Williams/Elizabeth Alston lineage. They had 3 sons, Samuel, John Joseph and Williams and they were in Bertie Co., NC. Their son was always referred to as John Joseph, I suppose to distinguish him from all the other Joseph Williams men. My Joseph had 3 sons who married Herring girls, daughters of Joseph Herring and Unicy Uzzell in Sampson Co. Henry married Nancy Herring, Hezekiah married Eunice Herring and Parrott/Perritt married Rhoda Herring (I have seen her as Bridget Rhoda but that is questionable.) His daughter, Edith (Eady) married George House in Sampson Co and they stayed there when the others moved to Anson Co. As far as I have been able to determine our Joseph Williams was not a descendant of the VA Williams. It is possible he descended from Lodwick Williams, his son, Edward Williams and our Joseph's father could have been the son of that Edward Williams but this has not been altogether proven. I have only been searching for my Joseph's parents and ancestry for nearly 20 years without success. However, I am convinced that the information you need is out there somewhere and just matter of time and lucking up on records to prove it. I wish you success, too in your quest. Dorothy C.
