    3. Hi, Kay, I'm seeking any and all proving information on John Alfred WILLIAMS, who married in Lee CoVA to Delilah CHEEK, sometime between 1858 and 1860. I estimate he was born abt. 1822, a census reports that he was born in Lee Co; he d. about. 1885 in Lee CoVA. Delilah died Aug 28, 1867 (Catron), leaving him with five or six children, among them newborn twin boys who subsequently died, one on Oct 13, the other two days later, probably because their mother had died. They probably starved. Alfred remarried to Susannah BALL on Dec 01, 1867, and according to the marriage record, he declared he was born in Harlan CoKY, and his parents are given as Hezekiah and Keziah WILLIAMS. Catron's Early Court Records of Lee County, Virginia, Vol. II, carries the following public notice: "On 1st day August county court 1886, I will proceed to sell at public outcry, the lands or so much thereof, as will settle the taxes, levies, interest at 5 per cent and costs of advertisements etc, to the above taxes described, unless the amount of taxes and costs be previously paid. This sale will be continued form (sic) day to day and if necessary from court to court until completed. M. B. Wygal, Treasurer." Included on said list was the entry: "Williams, Alferd (sic), 38 1/2 acres in Back Valley, taxes dilinquent, $.76." The man apparently didn't have a very happy existence. As you can see, I have several blank dates that I need filled, and anything at all about his parents would be helpful. Thanks for your generous offer of help, since I live about 400 miles from Lee CoVA, even though I'm in the same state.
