My ancestor (2 G-grandfather) was H. G. Williams - listed that way in all census records in which he appears and on his tombstone. Civil war records indicate his name was Henderson G. Williams. He was born in April 1832 in North Carolina, but is first documented in the 1860 census of Pickens County, AL and married with three children. A grandson named for him was known all his life as Henry Williams. A Henderson Williams purchased land in Pickens County around 1840 - but my ancestor was too young to be a land owner. I cannot locate any further info on this older Henderson Williams. When did his family leave NC? Who were the parents of H. G. Williams? Where did they live in 1850?
